Epson's WUXGA HTPS-TFT Panel hints at ultra-bright, high-contrast PowerLite projectors in September

As a leader in home cinema systems, it's always a good idea to keep tabs on Epson's core technologies as a preview of what's coming up in next generation home theater projectors. Today Seiko-Epson announced the start of volume production for its 0.94-inch HTPS-TFT LCD capable of a WUXGA (1920 x 1200 pixel) resolution for 3LCD projectors pushing 1080p. The panel supports a brightness of 5000 lumens (or more!) using Epson's D7 process technology while achieving "higher than ever contrast" through its C2 Fine inorganic alignment layer tech. What this means is simple: expect to see a new brightness and contrast champion PowerLite Home Cinema projector announced at the end of Summer, as CEDIA tradition dictates, with product shipping by end of the year.

Canon's WUXGA REALiS WUX10 LCoS projector notches December ship date

We know, there are an uncomfortable amount of capital letters in that headline, but Canon's really looking to get your attention with this one. The planet's very first WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) LCoS projector was originally expected to be available sometime this fall, but it looks as if those in Japan will be forced to wait until "early December" to indulge. It's probably not a huge deal though, 'cause we're certain you needed another couple of months to cover that ¥1.5 million ($14,823) asking price. As for American availability? Not a clue, but we hear importing isn't too much trouble.

Dell quietly introduces 7609WU DLP WUXGA projector

Just a day after rolling out its smallest SVGA projector of all time, Dell has quietly slid a new home cinema beamer into its accessories lineup. The 7609WU features a native 1,920 x 1,200 (WUXGA) resolution, DLP / BrilliantColor technology, 3,850 ANSI lumens, a 2,700:1 contrast ratio, twin stereo speakers, a lamp good for around 2,500 hours and a whole slew of ports including VGA (x2), component, S-Video, USB, RJ-45 and HDMI (x2). It'll set you back a stiff $4,999, but just think, you'll never have to spend another cent at the local Cineplex.

DPI reveals iVision 30-WUXGA HD projector

DPI, or Digital Projection International for the anti-acronym crowd, isn't much on pumping out low-end consumer projectors. It would rather focus on crafting beasts such as the one you see above: the iVision 30-WUXGA. As the title so eloquently explains, this beamer packs a spectacular 1,920 x 1,200 native resolution and the latest DarkChip DMD technology from Texas Instruments. Amazingly, the whole thing only weighs 6.5-pounds, and other specs include a 4,000:1 contrast ratio, 3,100 ANSI lumens and HDCP-compliant HDMI / DVI inputs (among other analog jacks). 'Tis a shame there's no price mentioned, but it's safe to assume bargain hunters won't find much to love here.

Barco intros three-chip NW-12 DLP WUXGA projector

Here's something you don't see every week: a pair of lust-worthy WUXGA projectors revealed within 48 hours. Shortly after the iVision 30-WUXGA broke cover, in comes Barco's NW-12 to steal some thunder. Dubbed the "world's first three-chip DLP WUXGA projector for professional presentations," this saucy beamer packs a native 1,920 x 1,200 resolution, a mind-blowing 12,000 lumens and a sealed optical engine. For those on a slightly tighter budget, the outfit is also delivering the NW-5, which features a single-chip DLP engine and "just" 5,000 lumens. Pricing and availability are unknown for both, but we have all ideas this is one of those classic "If you have to ask..." type scenarios.

Canon develops pair of LCoS reflective LCD panels

Though Canon has been focusing on SED and locking down LCD partnerships throughout the earlier part of the year, the firm will be showcasing its very own LCoS reflective LCD panels at InfoComm next month. The first panel is a 0.71-inch WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) model, which is said to be the "world's first LCoS panel of its size to achieve such a level of resolution." The second is a 0.55-inch SXGA (1,400 x 1,050) version, which can also be used in conjunction with other Canon technologies to bring new projectors to market. Beyond that, it seems we'll have to wait until June before finding out more, but you can certainly peek the read link and attempt to read between the lines.

projectiondesign ships WUXGA F10 and F30 DLP projectors

projectiondesign is a name synonymous with high-end, high-definition projection, and just in case your lofty expectations were somehow not met with the well-spec'd M25, feast your eyes on the now-shipping F10 and F30. Both DLP-equipped units are capable of beaming out images natively at 1,920 x 1,200 (WUXGA) in a 16:10 aspect ratio, and while the F10 possess 3,500 lumens, the F30 ups the ante with 4,100. Granted, neither PJ is for those with tight budgets, as the former will ring up just north of $10,000, while the latter demands upwards of $14,000.
