Sony's XEL-1 OLED TV finally coming to Australia next month

Sony's XEL-1, widely known as the first consumer-level OLED TV to hit the market, has done a pretty decent job of traversing the globe. For reasons unknown, however, it has yet to touch down in the great nation of Australia. Thankfully for deep-pocketed Aussies who passed up on the Kevin37 deal, all that changes next month. CNET is reporting that Sony will launch its 11-inch wonder Down Under in "mid-April," with pricing expected to be anywhere from AU$6,000 ($4,209) to AU$8,000 ($5,612). Call us looney, but we get the idea that most mates will be passing this opportunity up without thinking twice. We mean, do you have any idea how much, um, stuff that kind of dough buys in Nimbin?

Neil Young's Blu-ray 'Archives' release back on: June 2nd for $299

Take this with a huge grain of salt, but it seems that Neil Young's long (long) awaited Archives release on Blu-ray is back on track. Last we heard, the 10-disc set was shakily headed for a February release date, but given that it's March, we'd say that obviously didn't pan out. Down at South by Southwest in Austin, Young's manager Elliot Roberts was quoted as saying that the collection will now be released on June 2nd. Archives Vol. 1 1963-1972 will include 128 audio tracks (43 unreleased and 13 never-before-heard) along with thousands of images, lyrics, letters and memorabilia. The rough news is that the Blu-ray edition will run fans a shocking $299 while the DVD set goes for $199 and the CD version for $99. Better start saving up now -- worst case scenario, the June date will get bumped and you'll have three bills to blow on cheeseburgers and cookies.

Samsung's HMX-R10 HD camcorder aims for April release

Samsung's devilishly cute HMX-R10 camcorder stole the hearts of many at CES, but ever since, we've been aimlessly wandering about Sammy's website attempting to locate clues on pricing and availability. Thankfully, it seems some answers are starting to surface, and we've only got a month or so before we discover whether these whispers were laced in truth. Reportedly, this pocket-friendly high-def camcorder will be hitting UK streets next month, with early estimates pegging the price at $550. We're told that Americans may have to wait until sometime this summer before they too can indulge, but at least the Britons will be able to test it out beforehand and give you a little heart-to-heart buying advice.

Philips gives Cinema 21:9 HDTV a price and release date

We'd already heard during a UK preview show that Philips' Euro-only Cinema 21:9 HDTV would be priced around £3,000 when it launched sometime this Spring, but now we've got some more official details to share (and only half of it is good). So, the good news -- we're told that this behemoth will start shipping "as soon as June." The bad? The 56-inch ultra-widescreen panel will run you €4,000 ($5,045). Don't bother turning your head, that's just your wallet over in the corner wailing.

Remember that totally forgettable PoD that popped up and vanished back in June? Yeah, that very unit has finally secured a legitimate release date and price, and we can safely say that we're riveted. For those needing a refresher, the wired / wireless unit scans your local network and detects any type of multimedia stored anywhere; from there, it streams content directly to your TV without any fuss -- much like the Neuros-powered WhereverTV, but with far fewer limitations. If you're intrigued, get set to pony up $99 on December 15th to quell your curiosity.

Philips' LED-backlit 42PFL9803H on sale in UK for 2,299

If the flashy 42PFL9903D Aurea II is a bit too rich for your blood, Philips is offering you one other option before you bolt to some other brand. The LED-backlit 42PFL9803H, which was spotted (and lookin' good, might we add) at IFA earlier this year, is finally on sale across the pond. An outlay of £2,299 ($3,649) nets you a 42-inch 1080p panel with a 2,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and a 128-region local dimming system. Furthermore, you'll get four HDMI 1.3 ports, an Ethernet jack for streaming in media over a network and at least a small amount of bragging rights.

Philips intros 42PFL9903D Aurea II LCD HDTV

Late in August, we got wind of an elusive Aurea II HDTV that was in development from Philips. Now, we're looking at the official result of that labor. The 42-inch Philips Aurea II (or 42PFL9903D, if you'd prefer) packs a 1080p panel, the latest version of the Perfect Pixel HD engine, a dynamic contrast ratio of 30,000:1 and a wicked fast two-millisecond response time. Reportedly, the main differences between this set and the original Aurea is a thinner frame, more curvaceous corners and an ever-so-slightly updated design. For those with the cash to blow, it'll be available for a stiff £2,499 ($3,967) this month.

LG's BD300 Netflix / Blu-ray deck ships on October 10 for $349

Contrary to what LG coerced us into believing at CEDIA, its Netflix / Blu-ray-lovin' BD300 will actually be sold a full $50 cheaper than the previously quoted $399.95. Circuit City has the deck up for pre-order right this very moment for $349.99 (okay, so maybe that's not a full $50, but c'mon), and better still, the retailer is listing an October 10th release date. Now that Netflix has inked deals with CBS, ABC and Starz, there's just one question left: are you in for three fifty?

Panasonic's DMP-BD35 / DMP-BD55 get late October ship dates

Amazon already delivered the pricing information we've been waiting on so patiently, and now the e-tailer has divulged the ship dates. Panasonic's DMP-BD35 and DMP-BD55 Profile 2.0 Blu-ray players will evidently begin shipping on October 25th and 28th, respectively, and pre-orders are being accepted as we speak. 'Tis a shame there aren't any free Blu-ray Disc promotions, but it's not too late to add any in -- you listening, Amazon?

LG's BD300 Netflix / Blu-ray deck ships next month for $399.95

We hate to say we called it, but our complete in-the-dark guess of just under four C-notes was right on the money. LG has just announced that it's BD300 Network Blu-ray player (and Netflix streamer) will begin shipping to national retailers (Best Buy, Circuit City, Bass Pro Shops, etc.) next month (as in, a month later than initially anticipated) for $399.95. Not the cheapest BonusView-enabled deck in the mix, but given the Netflix functionality tossed in on the side, we can still see quite a few folks joining the BD camp with this one. Matter of fact, we'll just go ahead and ask -- is this your ticket into the Blu?

Neil Young's Archives Blu-ray collection gets November 3rd release date

Neil Young's Archives project, which will see his entire music collection from 1963 to 1972 spread out over a 10-disc Blu-ray / DVD box set, finally has a release date. After being announced at the JavaOne Conference this May, we've now learned that the set will hit shelves on November 3rd. Interestingly, a price is still eluding us, but we'd just go ahead and assume that 10 Blu-ray Discs won't be exactly cheap. Something to tide you over is waiting just past the break.

Amazon pushes BD-UP5000 release date back to February

Yeah, we already saw Samsung's BD-UP5000 in the wild and on sale in one particular location, but it seems there could be a problem in getting these things out to the masses. 'Course, we aren't going to assume the worse just yet, but it's not like we haven't heard the dreaded d-word (that's "delay" if you're wondering) flung around in regard to this unit before. Nevertheless, Amazon has just recently pushed the estimated release out from mid-January to February of next year, meaning that the eBay value of your recently acquired BD-UP5000 just creeped up a little. So, dear readers, are any of you having any luck locating this thing elsewhere? Or should we be that much more envious of those who managed to grab one already?
