We'd known that Time Warner Cable was planning something special for the heart of Ohio, and now it's official. The carrier itself has proclaimed that seven new high-def options have arrived in "legacy areas" of Mid-Ohio, which pushes the grand total in the area to 58. As of now, viewers in these regions can find CNBC HD (717), ESPNU HD (723), Bravo HD (744), SPEED HD (756), Toon Disney HD (771), SciFi HD (773) and Adult HD (401) in the program guide. In related news, WTTE HD will be relocating to slot 708, WOSU HD will head to slot 707 and WWHO HD will move to channel 713. Happy surfing!
TWC definitely bringing new HD channels to Dayton / Cincinnati, Ohio
We knew that Time Warner Cable was pretty close to locking down some serious HD additions in Dayton and Cincinnati, Ohio, and now we've been informed that both system lineups are go for viewing. In Dayton, users will see SciFi HD (778), USA HD (779), Animal Planet HD (780), Science HD (781), ESPNews HD (782) and Golf Channel HD (783). TWC lines up eight more HD channels in Columbus, Ohio
Columbus-area TWC subscribers were just blessed with sixteen new high-def channels over the past little bit, and according to a new report from The Columbus Dispatch, these same folks will see eight more in January. There's no mention of what exactly those channels will be, but we are told that the Start Over service has been expanded to eight areas in Central Ohio and should be available to all at the beginning of next year. Oh, and while this is completely unofficial, we'd say you can probably send a thank you letter to AT&T for applying pressure where it counts. Yeah, we said it -- survived. Columbus is one of the toughest markets to be a pay-TV provider in, as you've got competitors coming from pretty much every angle. That said, AT&T has managed to grow its U-verse TV business in the Ohio city over the past year, as it is now available to over 50 communities in the area. Interestingly, the operator doesn't take the time to brag about exactly how many consumers it has here, but we're betting it's a bit less than most regions simply due to the plethora of other options. At any rate, here's your birthday card AT&T, and no, there's no money tucked away after the break.
TWC plans new HD additions for Columbus, Ohio
Not that Columbus, Ohio is really lacking in the HD department, but given the intense competition for your pay-TV dollars there, it's no surprise to see Time Warner Cable planning another wave of additions. On or after December 28th, customers in the region will find Adult HD On Demand, CNBC HD, ESPNews HD, ESPNU HD, Bravo HD, Speed HD, Golf HD, USA HD, MLB Network HD, Toon Disney HD and SciFi HD. The carrier is also throwing in PBS Sprout and MLB Network on the SD side, and it's moving around a bunch of existing channels to new slots. For all the dirt, tap the read link.[Thanks, ESavage]

Wide Open West delivered three high-def stations to its markets in September, and now it's about to followup with three more in December. Effective December 18th, WOW! subscribers in Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and Evansville will be treated to ESPN2 HD, ABC Family HD and Disney HD, and NFL Network will be relocating from the HD Pak to the HD lineup on Digital Basic Cable. Let's just call it an early present, shall we?[Thanks, Wes and David]
TWC lines up a new batch of HD additions for Southwest Ohio
Time Warner Cable came through on its promise to bring 14 new high-definition channels to Cincinnati, Ohio this month, so we don't see any reason why it'll let locals down in December. According to a blurb on the carrier's website, it is "currently involved in discussions" to bring a whole heap of new HD channels to Southwest Ohio. If agreements can be nailed down within the next few weeks, residents could see USA HD, Sci-Fi HD, MSNBC HD, Bravo HD, Science Channel HD, Animal Planet HD, ESPNews HD, FX HD, Weather Channel HD, Golf Channel HD, Versus HD, Big Ten Network HD, Cinemax HD and Starz HD. Cross your fingers for a Christmas miracle.[Thanks, Dayton Guy]

Buckeye Cable gearing up for HD VOD, Start Over-type service
Buckeye Cable, which serves upwards of 150,000 customers in the greater Toledo / Sandusky, Ohio area, is looking to make some pretty big changes. The carrier has just upgraded its SeaChange VOD infrastructure in order to "dramatically expand" its HD video-on-demand offerings, and on top of that, it's also hoping to launch a Start Over-type service to help those who notoriously show up late for their favorite show. Better still, the company is looking to expand its linear HD lineup by adding in 15 to 25 new ones over the next 9 to 12 months. Pretty big words for a "small" provider -- guess we'll have to wait and see if it delivers.Insight Digital 4.0 brings wheelbarrow full of HD stations to Columbus, OH

Dayton, Ohio broadcasters begin analog shutoff drills
You can now add Dayton, Ohio to the list of towns across America running analog shutoff drills to ensure that procrastinating locals, um, get the message. At approximately 6:58PM local time this evening, the city's five stations -- WBDT-TV, WDTN-TV, WHIO-TV, WKEF-TV, and WRGT-TV -- will broadcast a 60-second announcement in which viewers will be tasked to "look for a message which will only be visible on the digital signal." If they can spot the message, they're suitably prepped for February 17, 2009; if not, they'll be given a phone number to frantically call for help. We're told that tonight's test will be the first of a long line of drills taking place over the next 13 weeks, and given that a swath of folks will likely be out getting their Friday night party on, that's probably a good thing.[Thanks, Dayton Guy]
TWC placing 14 new HD channels in Cincinnati, Ohio
Hot on the heels of TWC announcing a new truckload of high-def channels for the Carolinas comes a similar announcement for Cincinnati, Ohio. According to a pamphlet being sent out to resident Time Warner Cable customers, 14 new ones are heading to the EPG by the year's end, with Palladia HD, Disney Channel HD, Discovery Channel HD, ABC Family HD, TLC HD, ESPNU HD, FOX News HD, Hallmark Movie Channel HD, CNN HD, WPTO HD (ThinkTV based in Oxford, OH) being added in November and Animal Planet HD, ESPNews HD, The Weather Channel HD and Science Channel HD in December. Is a celebration in order, or what? [Disclosure: Engadget is part of the Time Warner family][Thanks, Kevin]

TWC adds Food / Disney / Animal Planet HD in Columbus, OH
Time Warner Cable has been beefing up its HD lineup in Columbus, Ohio slowly but surely, and yet again, residents are being spoon-fed another trio as they await a fantasmical high-def explosion (that may or may not ever come, sadly). At any rate, Food Network HD, Disney HD and Animal Planet HD were all lit up in the EPG this week, giving locals three more ways to split their HD viewing hours. Invigorating, no?[Thanks, Nick]
