Blu-ray releases on January 13th 2009

Appaloosa Blu-rayIt's hard to believe we are already half way through January, but we are and by the looks of it, we won't have any "great" titles until after the Oscars in late February. This is because all of the really good movies were either released in time for the holidays or are waiting for a post Oscars release to ride the buzz. That being said, Appaloosa looks to be your best shot this week if you are into westerns -- we are. If you like horror movies then Fox's Mirrors might be worth a shot. Superhero Movie and Without a Paddle both look really bad, so it's pretty safe to pass on 'em if you respect IMDB's scores. Next week isn't much better either, that is of course unless you can't wait for The Notebook.

Stargate-themed home theater saves you a trip to space

Hot on the heels of the $150,000 Italian home theater comes one from another galaxy... literally. Designer Phil Chaney teamed up with science fiction addict Andrew Caldwell to create a Stargate-themed lair that could probably lift off at any moment. The room is decked out with stars, ambient lighting, Atlantic Technology in-wall speakers, a Control 4 system and an elusive Blu-ray player to boot. Nah, it won't be easy to recreate this one without some serious cash (and space), but those still waiting to receive SciFi HD can torture themselves further by checking out the slideshow in the read link.

My New Years resolutions

1: I am going to convince the fiancee that the money from our wedding will be best spent on a 1080p projector. Who needs a new kitchen? Really?

2: I am going to stop watching lame programs just because they are in high-def. i.e. Chasing Lance Armstrong and Sound Off

3. I am going to write FX Networks every week, pleading them to broadcast their FX Original Series in high definition. Think Nip/Tuck and The Shield

4. Ditto on number 3 but insert Sci-Fi Channel for "FX Networks "and Stargate/Battlestar Glactica for "FX Original Series."

5. Record and rewatch every episode of My Name is Earl in search of more HD Easter Eggs; plus, the show just rocks.
