Netflix goes social, integrates with Facebook Connect

Clearly, having access to your Netflix queue on your iPhone just isn't intimate enough, and now the company is expanding its reach once more by announcing Facebook Connect integration. Officially, the integration "seamlessly links a Netflix member's account with his or her Facebook account," though with Facebook changing its layout every three month, you probably won't be able to find the Netflix bit by the time summer draws to a close. At any rate, Facebook Connect will extend members' movie ratings from the Netflix community to Facebook, and of course, Netflix subscribers can decide whether or not they want to take advantage. The idea here is for Facebook friends to yap online over ratings and such, and generally keep Netflix on the tip of their tongue at all times. Hit up the full release past the break for all the appropriate setup information.

kwiry adds TiVo scheduling, social networking support

kwiry's been helping texters remember things for well over a year, and now it's about to help them schedule TiVo recordings and update their Facebook / Twitter statuses. A few new kwiry shortcuts have been announced to make the lives of text messaging fiends more enjoyable, with a one-time account link between your handset and your TiVo Series2 / Series3 enabling a "tivo 30 Rock" SMS to trigger that very action. Additionally, users can now tap into Yelp and email contact information on the go, and as always, the service is completely free to end users. Hear that? Free.

Panasonic launches online community for Living in HD program

At least initially, Panasonic's Living in HD program seemed like a one-off promotion to hook a few crews up with some pretty sweet swag. Now, it has morphed into a running R&D experiment of sorts, with some 44 families having participated in order to give the outfit feedback on how its HD-related gear works / doesn't work in real life. In fact, applications are still being accepted for the next wave of winners, and in case you're interested, the company is also launching a new online community in conjunction with the initiative. The site contains a number of videos to get beginners started in their HD life, and there's also a forum for families to discuss such important matters as mounting / not mounting, surround system versus soundbar, etc. Sure, it may never top the mighty AVSForum in terms of breadth and depth, but it's probably not going to overwhelm and intimidate the newbies, either.

Comcast acquires Plaxo, your set-top box wants to meet your friends

Assuming you're not Twitter, Facebook and Pownce'd to death already, Comcast is bringing the social network universe straight to your set-top box. This morning it announced the purchase of Plaxo, the company already behind Comcast's universal address book due later this year. By tying together TV plus online parts like Fandango and Fancast, it aims to ease sharing media between your various devices, family and friends. Add in tru2way app possibilities, and the future of our DVR looks increasingly networked (and a bit complicated.)

TiVo brings My TV application to Facebook

TiVo's (intelligently) dipping its toes into the social networking waters by delivering the My TV application on Facebook. Granted, you don't have to have a TiVo in order to join in, and while it'd be much nicer if you could import programs from your Season Pass, it's not a half bad start. Users who add the application can discuss episodes of their favorite shows with others, find out what friends are tuning into and discover material you aren't currently watching (but totally should be). Eventually, we -- like Gizmo Lovers -- would greatly appreciate some sort of actual TiVo integration, and if it plans on setting itself apart from all the other me-too STBs, it probably wouldn't be a bad move.
