Poll: Did you like the new show V? {Engadget HD}

Nov 4th 2009 9:53PM +1

I hope no one is being paid to write these polls.

Toshiba's BDX2000 Blu-ray deck hits Best Buy for $199, sour grapes also on sale {Engadget HD}

Oct 27th 2009 1:00AM Engadget HD content has been a bit thin of late, so my guess is that the "sour grapes" line is just bait for the few remaining people that haven't fully come to terms with the passing of HD DVD over 18 months ago.

Move along folks, nothing to see here.

Blu-ray releases on October 20th 2009 {Engadget HD}

Oct 19th 2009 7:53PM +1 on the lame Wally World only version with IMAX scenes. Props for multiple coupons one can use on either the BD or DVD.

Another thumbs down for Universal's porting the HD DVD of Waterworld and slapping a DTS-MA soundtrack on top of it. Hello? Does BD not have enough room for the extended cut? Maybe I'll double dip on it if they eventually pull their head out and re-release the extended version.

China Blue HD crosses over to the UK, third Opium War inevitable {Engadget HD}

Oct 14th 2009 1:51AM Looks like they had a disc already in the tray and paused out to the setup menu (that looks a LOT like an HD DVD setup menu, go figure).

Why this is making its way out of China is beyond me.

ATI Radeon HD 5870 is the first video card to bitstream TrueHD and DTS-HD {Engadget HD}

Oct 1st 2009 4:29AM Probably not anymore likely than a firmware upgrade would make FAT PS3's capable of doing the same, as it's more likely that it's a physical issue more than software/drivers.

ATI Radeon HD 5870 is the first video card to bitstream TrueHD and DTS-HD {Engadget HD}

Oct 1st 2009 1:31AM What version of Windows does that happen under? Vista? 7? 32bit? 64bit? Is it the catalyst drivers or does it only happen in various motherboard chipset/OS combinations?

I wouldn't be plugging this into my TV as it can neither decode nor pass lossless audio my Onkyo 805.

ATI Radeon HD 5870 is the first video card to bitstream TrueHD and DTS-HD {Engadget HD}

Sep 30th 2009 8:02PM So does the cheaper 5850. $120 less. less heat, smaller card & bitstream lovin!

Pioneer's 12x BDR-205 Blu-ray burner is so fast it's ahead of its time {Engadget HD}

Sep 30th 2009 2:34PM Just checked Newegg. A single 6x dual layer BD-R costs $25. $4 for a single layer 4x isn't as bad, but that's still a lot for write once media. I'd rather fork out the $$ for a DroboPro, load it up with 1 TB drives and rip my HD content to it. If I want to go mobile, I'll just copy the file in question to a 32GB SDHC or Flash drive and be done with it.

Latest DirecTV sale rumors point to Verizon {Engadget HD}

Sep 28th 2009 6:56PM Same here. All I need is an excuse to drop DirecTV and just switch to an HTPC, TiVoHD or both. I could have them paid for in less than a year and still have money left over for Xbox Live Video Market Place or Amazon on demand downloads.

Gartner predicts that by 2013, 95 percent of video will be H.264 {Engadget HD}

Sep 22nd 2009 7:27PM I'm not surprised. H.264 has excellent performance in today's low bandwith/low bit rate consumer products (cell phones, iPod touch, over compressed cable, etc) and doesn't drop off until you get well past the max bit rate of Blu-ray. By the time we start talking about 4k, we'll also be talking about new round of codecs.
