Aug 23rd 2008 12:15AM Hi everyone. This is great news. My wife and I love Swingtown, no we are not swingers. but the show is fun and entertaining.

a great period piece. actually I think the show would be even more perfect for Showtime. Pick up the show, it is high quality and great. Keep it alive please

Nielsen VideoScan High-Def market share for week ending August 10th, 2008 {Engadget HD}

Aug 20th 2008 7:33AM exactly, you are 100% right. there aint any reason why BD discs cost so much more.

Studios need to learn that for them to fight piracy and digital threat, they need to offer BD at more competitive pricing, which would only be slightly more expensive than DVD, not treat it like Laserdisc 2.0, and charge a hefty premium.

Nielsen VideoScan High-Def market share for week ending August 10th, 2008 {Engadget HD}

Aug 20th 2008 7:31AM the reason why BD sales are lower in comparison is because of too high pricing.

Films like NIMS ISLAND, are just too high priced, $40 list price is simply too high to drive real volume. Fox needs to lower their initial pricing by $10-12, if they did this, it would allow new release sale pricing which would be very competitive. If a store like best buy would be able to see films on sale for say, $20-22, then more will be sold. end of story. some studios like FOX and others are pricing way too many titles too expensively. Consumers need to send them a signal, say no to high priced BD discs. only buy reasonably priced films/tv content.

Aug 2nd 2008 3:17PM Well, when you crunch the numbers it isn't surprising. The Mummy series and associated films are kinda weak. Definitely doesn't scream to most purchasers that they need to upgrade to them, nor on the re-release on dvd. old films, that just aren't that great when compared to Batman which is tearing it up right now.

DirecTV 11 starts broadcasting HD, simulcast of MPEG2 HD channels are live {Engadget HD}

Jul 31st 2008 7:27PM This is great news. the freed up Directv Satellite bandwidth can goto other ntsc channels and maybe.... ALLOW DIRECTV to offer better picture on the regular ntsc channels, which are ntsc lite themselves because many of them are compressed to hell!!

Home video spending still strong, $194 million spent on Blu-ray in 2008 {Engadget HD}

Jul 16th 2008 11:17AM I really wonder where people are getting this $1,000,000,000 # from?
if you include hardware my bet is this # will be met easily.

Also, alot of people here have short memories, The format war only ended a short time ago, in the mid spring.

Consumers haven't had a big blu-ray push on hardware until.... not even yet. the manufacturers are only now getting new models out and prices which had been expected to drop on hardware haven't, why? the us Dollar is dropping alot.

if the dollar were not in trouble, my bet is electronics would be lower priced by now.

any way you cut it, Blu-Ray is doing alot better than before. so stop the naysaying and let people enjoy.

Now... if only the studios lowered their pricing on movies!!
