What Makes a Real Vampire? {Cinematical}
Nov 20th 2009 3:51PM If you're interested in vampire mythology of the tough kind you must check out Guillermo Del Toro/Chuck Hogan's "The Strain" (first of a planned trilogy). Now here are some serious vampire elements and a terrific read to boot. I only hope it makes it to the screen at some point.
Cinematical Seven: Movies That Start Fights {Cinematical}
Nov 20th 2009 3:42PM Remember the Spice Girls album that sold a zillion copies but nobody you know bought it? Same thing with "Twilight" and the 2nd Transformers. Obviously somebody, somewhere bought one hell of a lot of CD's and movie tickets!
Scenes We Love: Miller's Crossing {Cinematical}
Nov 6th 2009 3:51PM Definitely one of their most underrated films and certainly one of my most favorites (Raising Arizona, No Country For Old Men, Blood Simple, The Big Lebowski). It is an amazing scene, but I'm with Taylor on Tom taking Bernie out to Miller's Crossing.
Transformers 2 tops chart, best selling Blu-ray of all time? {Engadget HD}
Oct 29th 2009 3:05PM Stick with Lost S3! I've got one more episode to go and then on to S4. And spend $50 for the Blu Ray - I have all 4 seasons and they are the most beautiful damn things you ever saw(or heard - the lossless soundtracks are terrific)!
Blu-ray Still Struggling to Find Customers {Cinematical}
Oct 13th 2009 3:03PM As a collector I have invested in optical media for some time starting with laserdiscs (I still have quite a few and a player). My first laser disc player cost $1000 and discs were $30-$40. My first DVD player cost $750 and discs were $30-$40. My first HD DVD player and first Blu Ray player both cost around $400 and discs were $30-$40. Yes, as an early adopter I have paid thru the teeth for some of these things but the point I want to make is that while the price of initially getting the players has gone down, the starting price for discs has remained about the same although the quality content has gone up. I hope that Blu Ray disc prices eventually hit under $20 but I kind of doubt we'll see the $5-$10 bargain bin specials we see with DVD's. There are a lot of good comments here re: Blu Ray, physical media in general, and digital downloads. There's plenty on the table for everyone - I just hope it all stays around and becomes affordable whatever your choice
Let's Make Theater Hopping Legal! {Cinematical}
Oct 5th 2009 4:32PM Comcast HD On Demand has a section of movie trailers in HD
that I love going thru on Saturday mornings trying to decide what I want to see. If you know someone who has Comcast maybe they'll invite you over.
Monday Night Poll: Can Megan Fox Act? {Cinematical}
Sep 22nd 2009 2:57PM Ok - she's nice looking but that's all you're gonna get from me! I was too busy looking at Shia to even remember she was in "Transformers". And he can act too!
Sony Reminds Me That I'm a Home Theater Moron {Cinematical}
Sep 3rd 2009 3:28PM I can't believe there are people in this blog that think presentation doesn't affect how you feel about the movie. Go to a movie theater with a crappy, incorrect screen ration, crappy sound, and a poorly (improperly lit) picture and tell me it doesn't matter. It sure as hell does if you're a movie lover. Your home theater doesn't have to be the latest and greatest, but if you truly loves movies (and I assume that's why you're reading this blog), it should at least be as good as you can afford.
'Avatar' Footage Screened, New Images Now Online {Cinematical}
Jun 24th 2009 3:18PM I know everyone thinks Cameron walks on water, and Titanic made a boatload of money, but really, aside from the sinking, it was really a POS, as was True Lies. But, if we can get away from the onslaught of hype this film is gonna generate, we know he's capable of hitting this one out of the park. Let's hope for that and not another Titanic.
Snow White's Blu-ray debut is October 6 {Engadget HD}
Apr 3rd 2009 4:21PM If you really think that then you ought to check out Pinocchio on Blu Ray. I don't understand the prejudice I see against animation in HD that crops up in this forum. I thought that people who read and respond to Endgadget HD understood something about HD.
