Feb 12th 2009 8:22AM onkyo 706 is great, but the price of the 806 is closing in on the price of the 706.
I bought the 706 for work and I love it, but i think I'm going to get the 806 for home.
King of the Hill makes the high-def leap {Engadget HD}
Feb 10th 2009 12:37PM wow, now we can see the most poorly animated prime-time show on television with even more clarity.
Case and point: in the screen grab for this article, good job casting shadows on the ground when there are no shadow mattes on the characters or any other object on screen... oh wait, there is a shadow on the soffit of the house... going the wrong direction. brilliant.
This does nothing for me.

HD Netflix streaming goes live on Xbox 360 {Engadget HD}
Nov 21st 2008 10:21AM Sure the selection is rough currently, but the service has only been available for a couple of days. In a year or so, when there's a larger selection and more people have higher bandwidth, this will be a no brainer for late adopters to HD:
'Spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on non-user friendly DRM slathered blu-ray equipment and discs, or use the technology already in my home to get movies quickly and with reasonable if not comparable quality -- for half of the cost of 1 bluray disc per month.'
Every few years I change my viewing habits and with the release of this Netflix service over my 360, I'm going to drop the Dish (compression rates are terrible, the streaming Netflix looks way better - especially in dark areas), get Uverse at the highest internet speeds i can get. Streaming is the next-gen viewing experience.
NO BLU RAY FOR ME. It's not worth it. I know that soon enough i would be putting the BR player in my basement with my HDdvd player. Besides, Sony products are overpriced, exaggerated in terms of quality and chock full of DRM.
+ the PS3 is the worst game system ever. It's slow and the games don't look as good as the 360. We have one where i work and everytime i turn it on it takes soooooo long to update and install garbage. It's terrible and my 360 works flawlessly.
Netflix CPO gets technical about encoding for streaming {Engadget HD}
Nov 20th 2008 10:25AM I have a terrible 1.5 DSL connection and I streamed THX1138, and Superman Doomsday and they looked AMAZING. Just as good if not better than a DVD. I have no idea how it looks so good with my crappy speeds, but I'm very happy with it. I can't imagine what it's going to look like when I get Uverse.
There is no way I'm going to invest a dime in Blu-Ray with this technology at my fingertips. I have a feeling that Netflix is going to be ramping up the HD programming in the near future so I'm not worried about the lack of current HD content.
OH and "F' YOU SONY" for being c0cks about your content availability on Netflix.. do you want people to watch your movies or not? The PS3 at my work is the slowest most cumbersome gaming system I've ever used.
Netflix opens 'Watch Instantly' to Mac owners who opt-in {Engadget HD}
Nov 2nd 2008 6:36PM just opted in. quick, easy, looks pretty good considering my terribly slow DSL connection.
Netflix finally brings 'Watch Instantly' to Macs via Silverlight {Engadget HD}
Oct 27th 2008 11:12AM It doesn't work yet. At least their website has not been updated to allow me to play anything on my mac. I do have Silverlight installed and an intel mac.
Poll: Do you tune into OTA programming? {Engadget HD}
Jun 28th 2008 8:06PM If you don't use OTA + have an HD tv + are CAPABLE of getting channels OTA.. you are seriously missing out. I have Dish and the locals look like garbage compared to my antenna channels.
If you don't have an antenna in your attic, roof or on your set top, I highly recommend getting one of these. They're cheap and so much better than the highly compressed crap that cable or satellite gives you.
