Popcorn Hour C-200 hands-on {Engadget HD}

Sep 27th 2009 2:21PM I want to know how it does with Blu-ray ISOs. Can it mount them? Menu support? Bit-steaming support? Can it play BDMV folders (Blu-rays ripped to folders instead of ISOs)?

Oppo BDP-83 pre-orders now open for all (in North America) {Engadget HD}

Jul 1st 2009 11:24AM I believe it only plays MKV files stored on an optical disc, not stored on a network drive, making this feature less useful. I considered buying one until I learned this.

SageTV's HD Theater gets Blu-ray streaming {Engadget HD}

Mar 3rd 2009 3:52PM Sage needs a better interface for browsing movies, such as OML for Windows Media Center. If Sage had that, I'd replace all of my Media Center PCs in a second.

Working with a robot: Drobo in action {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jan 30th 2009 3:15PM I know this is an Apple-centric blog, but I have to say that I've found Windows Home Server to be the best solution for me. I'm a bit surprised how popular the Drobo is since it doesn't even have a network port or the ability to run applications/plug-ins. WHS now works as a TimeMachine client, can use drives of multiple sizes, and offers the equivalent of RAID1 protection. My WHS can handle 16 drives, although I only use 12, a combo of 500GB and 1TB drives, resulting in about 7TB to total space. It also performs automated off-site backups of critical data and it can be accessed when I'm away from home.

I think the drobo is a great product, but think there are other options with a better feature/price ratio.

iPhone 101: Switch between audio outputs for your voicemail {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Sep 18th 2008 10:15AM Actually, this is a new feature with firmware v2.1. It automatically transfers audio to the bluetooth headset if it is connected. Otherwise, use the instructions above to transfer audio away from bluetooth and to a different output.

Poll: What will your next display be? {Engadget HD}

Apr 28th 2008 10:28AM My next display will be a JCV LCoS projector (DLA-HD2 or its replacement.)

I'll probably upgrade my family room LCD flat panel to an OLED model a few years from now.

WinDVD 9 Plus Blu-ray finally supports TrueHD and DTS-HD {Engadget HD}

Mar 20th 2008 8:50PM Dolby True HD and DTS HD support from Auzentech - the holy grail for HTCP audio! I hope this becomes a reality in the near future. . .

WinDVD 9 Plus Blu-ray finally supports TrueHD and DTS-HD {Engadget HD}

Mar 20th 2008 8:49PM The Asus Xonar Cards make no mention of supporting Dolby True HD or DTS HD. They just pass 5.1 PCM data the way current SPDIF / Optical digital ports do:

Anthem brings room correction add-on to its Statement lineup {Engadget HD}

Jan 18th 2008 2:30PM It's more than just "punching values into DSPs". It is hugely taxing on the 2 DSP within the D2 to process 7.1 channels at 192 kHz (everything is up-converted.) This feature pretty much maxes-out the DSPs. The AVM-50 won't get the room correction upgrade because the DSPs are not powerful enough.

hifiaudio2: This will be taxing the amp too much? I don't think so. Most poeple have the D2 paired with very high power separate amps, such as Anthem Statement P5 and P2. Room correction won't be a problem. http://statement.anthemav.com/HTML/Products/P_Series/P_Series.html

Five more good reasons to pick plasma over LCD {Engadget HD}

Aug 27th 2007 1:55PM Well said. Unless you are in a completely dark room, the glare on a plasma is unbearable in my opinion. This is also a reason to avoid the newest Samsung LCD panels; they have a glass front and no glare filter -- just like plasma.
