Sharp's 20-inch AQUOS DX LCD HDTV has a built-in Blu-ray player, no 1080p panel {Engadget HD}
May 22nd 2009 1:04PM People who can't tell the difference between a 720 and a 1080 resolution need to buy glasses or get lasic. Yes I am one of the 1080p snobs, but seriously if you want a blu-ray you want it for one reason only - better picture (and sound to an extent).
If you're happy with 720 let me give you a piece of advise that will save you a ton of money - buy an upconvertion dvd player and buy DVDs - saves you a ton of money on the player and tons more on media and still looks decent.
There's nothing all that wrong with being happy with a 720 picture (hell we've all had worse for most of our lives), but don't come and tell me it's right for a brand new product to incorporate a blu-ray on a 720 display. It's sort of like buying a ferrari engine and putting it in a kia.
CEA rails on California's proposed TV energy standards, rings doomsday bell {Engadget HD}
Apr 11th 2009 3:54AM This is as much BS as LCDs pushing out Plasmas.
Sadly the average consumer is a moron and listens to clueless sales reps.
The reason why HDTVs were made was for better picture quality - why on earth someone will spend money (sometimes actually more ) to buy an inferior LCD picture, than a Plasma one is beyond me.
Most of us want to conserve power - fine, but the difference between plasma and lcd these days in power consumption is not all that much. And if you're so hardcore on saving energy - DO NOT BUY a TV, but rather go outside and watch nature - I hear watching your actual surroundings is better than 1080p and you won't be wasting any energy at all.

TiVo update brings pause menu ads to Series3 & TiVo HD owners {Engadget HD}
Apr 6th 2009 10:19PM So you pay them $13 or whatever a month so that they put ads on your screen - freaking BRILLIANT!! I wonder how soon people will stop putting up with that crap and give these companies the finger.
I'm so glad that I have a htpc which REMOVES the existing ads in my shows without me doing anything, doesn't push ads on me and *gasp* is free ... I know it's a strange concept ...
