Jun 19th 2009 2:38AM What speakers do you have? Honestly, I don't think it will make an extreme difference if you are using powered computer speakers like a Z-5500 or something like that. If you have an Audioengine or M-Audio monitors, then it'll make a difference, but like the posters said above - unless you're trying to get 7.1 or something, just stick with onboard.
Me? I have a Macbook Pro, but I have it hooked up to a Harman Kardon AVR-247, which powers two Energy RC-10 monitors in a 2.0 setup. I use a Optical Toslink Cable so the HK and work as a DAC too. Before that, I had a Logitech Z-4 setup. That's a big difference. If you want better sound quality, invest your money in better speakers like the ones mentioned above (Audioengine A2s and A5s are a good choice for powered).
