Court sides with Charter, takes DirecTV ads pointing out bankruptcy off the air {Engadget HD}

May 16th 2009 4:23PM It's fair game. For thirty years the cable companies have had a monopoly and were continually raising rates and reaping billions by selling us 70 channels of crap which they chose for the most profitablilty. They lied to us about how competition was bad. Then why is eveyone jumping to Fios and Satellite? Because we get more for the money and were tired of the cable companies. Looks like competition worked to me. See ya later, good riddance.

Oppo BDP-83 completes second round of testing, pre-order invites going out {Engadget HD}

May 14th 2009 1:36PM For gosh sakes, by the time the general public can buy one these, Bluray will be obsolete. Originally people were speculating about a Christmastime release. Then it was late Winter.

I was wanting a player with good audio for what I was hoping would be audio only releases on Bluray. But in the many months and even years it's taking for any players with good audio circuitry and total lack of Bluray audio releases, the Hi-Rez audio scene is changing to computer based with downloads and DVD-R discs being shipped with low royalty, DRM-free, user-friendly files.

I'm glad I waited.

Klipsch says goodbye to Aragon and Acurus amplifiers {Engadget HD}

May 13th 2009 5:50PM Those companies are just brand names now. When they are sold the
talent goes elsewhere. Most of the time the companies fail when they
are sold. Not surprising. I don't understand why anyone would then buy the company third-hand. Those are old brand names that were popular 20 years ago.

Flight Display Systems shows off the first Blu-ray player for planes {Engadget HD}

May 12th 2009 9:23PM The in-flight system should be hard drive based. No need for Bluray on a plane anyway. The screens are too small to notice the difference. Save the money and stop charging us a baggage fee.

Harman Kardon intros its first Blu-ray player, the BDP 10 {Engadget HD}

May 8th 2009 10:24PM How does it stack up against the Oppo at twice the price? Probably nowhere near the value.

Audioholics peels back the lids on the current crop of ICEpower-based amplifiers {Engadget HD}

Apr 30th 2009 3:19PM A friend on mine who is considered one of the premier amp designers and holds patents for class D designs has about the same opinions as mine. Actually I have the same opinion as he does. Good for car stereo where you need efficiency, but not yet ready for home use for anything but subwoofers?

I'v'e worked on a lot of Bang & Olufsen over the years. Nothing special. Sleek looking but mediocre sound. So I wouldn't consider B&O to be on cutting edge of a technology like Class D.

Audioholics peels back the lids on the current crop of ICEpower-based amplifiers {Engadget HD}

Apr 30th 2009 1:11PM First off, Bang and Olufsen, to my knowledge, has never made anything that was considered close to audiophile quality.

Secondly, I can't imagine using Class D for anything but subwoofers. No need for lighweight home theater amps. Especially if there's a huge savings in parts cost, and then you gouge because of a novelty product.

Lastly, there are very few in the world who can design class D amps properly and Bang and Olfusen isn't one of them.

You're right, just hype !

Blu-ray releases on April 28th 2009 {Engadget HD}

Apr 28th 2009 8:43PM Star Trek ? How good can this be in HD ? It's so old and fake looking. This should be like a third tier release after they've run out of stuff to release on Bluray. Yeah a few Trekies will buy it but i's too soon to be releasing old TV shows. How about movies everyone will buy.

DirecTV on Demand adds Quantum of Solace in 1080p {Engadget HD}

Apr 23rd 2009 3:24PM Bluray is still better than everything that comes by satellite or cable. Though, I'm starting to wonder if Bluray is catching on fast enough to succeed because most people don't care that much about quality and audio/videophiles are concerned about the DRM. They're starting to download 24/192 music which I had thought would be delivered by Bluray.

Panasonic makes school runs more cinematic with its in-dash Blu-ray player {Engadget HD}

Apr 22nd 2009 5:23PM Can you even see the difference between DVD on such a small monitor in the car?
