Rock Band Weekly: Nirvana, Night Ranger {Joystiq}
Nov 25th 2009 4:06PM few people that follow the franchise closely assumed they were holding those for RB3. THe big assumption has been that the masters for those three songs simply weren't available (lost, damaged,etc). This only furthers that assumption.
As for profitiability, those comments were most likely taken out of context and were most likely directed at the Beatles game itself and not the entire franchise. The numbers don't add up, it's simply not possible for them to have not made a profit on the franchise at this point.

Review: Left 4 Dead 2 (Xbox 360) {Joystiq}
Nov 20th 2009 10:16AM I mean this with complete sincerity, if you can't make it through a campaign on normal and have a hard time on easy, YOU ARE NOT A GOOD TEAM FPS GAMER. I'm sorry, but that's just the truth. You may be OK out playing FFA in some game, but your team skills suck. Stay with the team, watch each others backs and don't run off alone. That's all you really have to remember. The shooting things part is easy and secondary to those three things.

Nov 11th 2009 10:55AM You limp dick fuckups are funny. You make love to the wii because of the concept, then you bash MS for having a similar, albeit different concept without ever actually seeing any software for it. I'm sure they'll have a mini-game collection or two, and why not, but considering that they're not the only ones making software for this, I'm inclined to be optimistic. The fact that the 360 isn't home to gobs of shovelware only bolsters my optimism.

Nov 7th 2009 3:15PM Kevin: Most people would love to learn an instrument but don't because they lack the patience to do it. Most can't handle the learning curve and won't put in enough time to get over it before giving up. If you make the learning process fun, ie, a game, lots of people would be interested.
Viacom: The Beatles: Rock Band sales strong, overall RB growth slow {Joystiq}
Nov 4th 2009 9:58PM It's impossible that the franchise as a whole hasn't generated a profit. I think his comments are misquoted or misinterpreted. They've had 7+ mil in sales for the original two titles alone. Even if you count those as disc only sales, that's a lot of money on games that, realistically, probably don't have astronomical dev costs. Most of the cost is licensing. The Beatles cost them 50mil for music rights alone. I would say that easily more than the first two games combined and probably more than all that plus all the DLC. I think they said they were putting 50mil into advertising for the Beatles and considering how little advertising there was for the first two games, it's safe to assume that also dwarfs the other games combined. Factor in all the track packs, which are just pressing DLC onto a disc and now all the mobile versions, which are just ports. They would have shut that shit down by now otherwise.

Nov 4th 2009 9:42PM Considering that the bulk of the article is about RB:Beatles, I'd assume that is what he actually means, not the franchise as a whole (rb1/2/beatles/mobile/etc). THey paid The Beatles a HUGE sum of money for the rights to their music/likenesses. Far more than the other games cost for licensing combined. It's impossible that they haven't broken even on those.
50 mil to The beatles + advertising + dev costs. They're right at 1.2 mil units sold. If you count all those as disc only sales that puts them right at 75 mil. Good 4th qtr sounds about right for them to break even on that investment. No way the original games haven't turned a profit by now though.

Nov 4th 2009 9:35PM considering that the beatles has sold as well as Guitar Hero 5, I'd say not many people agree with you. The power of the guitar hero brand is all but gone.
Scratch: The Ultimate DJ deck ain't no half-steppin' {Joystiq}
Nov 3rd 2009 1:44PM blah blah blah, people said the same think about Rock Band and still do, but you won't hear Harmonix complaining with their few million in sales (vs 10+mil for GH) and countless reviews praising their products. Point: Quality will sell. If this game has it, it will do just fine.

Nov 3rd 2009 1:42PM you call hitting pointers that plays chunks of mixes that someone else made, giving you ZERO control over the thing that DJ's actually do, innovation? You're a retard.
I'm not saying this game will give you that either, but you need to take the Acticock out of your mouth until you actually know what you're talking about.
