Android goes Canadian: Rogers launches HTC Magic and Dream {Engadget}

Jun 2nd 2009 3:10PM How about we actually list what the government could do
1) Reduce Canadian ownership laws (currently 50% of a telecom must be Canadian)
2) Subsidise new entrants to the marketplace (there are 3 new companies expected within the year)
3) Take control of the Bell and Rogers infrastructure and allow them a certain % of it's use.

You can't just demand the government take control of an industry because they charge you too much for services

Video: Acer's Aspire One 751h handled and opined upon {Engadget}

May 29th 2009 10:01AM My Aspire One 150 has a multi-touch trackpad, I found it to be quite annoying and largely unnecessary. I'm not sure if this is just an unnoticed feature or they've improved the whole unit for this new model, but I wanted to point out that it's somewhat of an old feature.

RIM sells its 50 millionth BlackBerry, surprises even itself with earnings {Engadget}

Apr 3rd 2009 2:42PM What other industry would have as good analytics to determine usage rates? Not only can they measure the contracts, but they can also measure the throughput through their own servers.

On another note, congrats from a UW grad, keep it up guys

The 2008 Engadget Awards: Nominate the Most Anticipated Gadget of 2009 {Engadget}

Mar 2nd 2009 7:46PM Palm Pre, but Windows 7* is certainly up there, and if new Canadian wireless providers were a gadget I'd nominate that too

* Especially fitting if Vista can be labeled a gadget

Google Sync debuts for iPhone, Windows Mobile and SyncML devices {Engadget}

Video: Android rocking on the HTC Touch {Engadget}

Dec 10th 2008 2:39PM I've been waiting for this for a while. If I was able to actually back up my Touch properly I would love to try this out.

Peek's email device tops voting for Time's gadget of the year, not that it matters {Engadget}

Nov 3rd 2008 8:41AM "The 3G is Apple's real breakthrough device though - the added Exchange support"
How is this worth mentioning? Apple added a standard smartphone feature

"...and connectivity have sold many times more handsets,"
They added 3G (feature that should have been on the first one) and sold the phone in more markets.

"the Appstore has revolutionised mobile software development and marketing (witness the Android Marketplace and a similar project that Microsoft are working on for WM)."
The real innovation is that they can profit from every piece of software due to the closed environment. It's great for Apple, carriers and software developers, but a step down for the customer. I certainly prefer the WinMo system. I can transfer cab files to my phone, or download them directly from the website, without paying extra to Apple or the carrier. Were I to use an app store, I would have a great one-stop place to get software, but I would be paying more for it and I don't see that as a revolution more than a poke in the eye.

Taxpayer-funded CBC spends $24 million on HD broadcasting trucks {Engadget HD}

Oct 29th 2008 3:41PM I'm sure Hockey Night in Canada is not hurting for money, advertising time on HNIC broadcasts is the most expensive air time in Canada. Keeping the demand for HNIC broadcasts high will continue to generate revenue for the CBC.

Also, in Canada this is a public good

Microsoft details pre-beta release of Windows 7 {Engadget}

Oct 28th 2008 12:53PM I'm confused as to what's wrong with Vista, it's a solid OS.

I've been using it for a year, what have I been missing?
