iPlayer HD now available {Engadget HD}
Apr 17th 2009 11:00AM Not available to me yet. A day later and I'm still waiting. Anyone got iPlayer HD yet?
According to Cnet the HD category appeared momentarily yesterday without any content available to play or download from it and then disappeared again without any word from the BBC. Maybe they thought it was a bad idea after all. Maybe the ISP's have had a word with the BBC over data usage.
Maybe ISP's will have to take the cap off their 'fair usage' policies and be more transparent about how they advertise their 'unlimited*' broadband packages. Cause people like me will be hooking up the computer and the flatscreen to watch BBC HD iPlayer and that's going to use a lot of gigabytes.
Sprint puts a vacation blackout on May -- Palm Pre launch likely? {Engadget}
Apr 11th 2009 5:11AM Man, Palm sure knows how to stir the pot! Just hope they don't shoot themselves in the foot by releasing too close to June 30th and iPhone OS 3.0. Still I'm of the opinion that ongoing competition between Palm and Apple will only result in a better phone for users, maybe Apple can learn a lesson in openness and basic phone functionality. That, or Palm will fail and Apple will continue to rise spreading it's proprietary nonsense... So I really want Palm to succeed with this and I'm an iPhone user. So anyway.... when is this going to be released Palm?

iPhone OS 3.0 is coming, preview on March 17th {Engadget}
Mar 13th 2009 6:05AM As an iPhone user, I should be excited, but as a realist I can only hope they will fix at least some of the issues I have with my slate.
I hope you're reading these things apple, cause honestly, I'm looking at getting the Pre if some of these things don't turn up soon.
So for the hell of it, here are my glassy towering hopes for software Version 3.0;
Contact screen with IM/Facebook/email/sms/mms options and integration - including current online status on Gmail or other IM. Like the Palm Pre
Multi message threading (IM, email, twitter, MMS, SMS etc) all in the same native application, with contact and reply options live.
Copy, Cut and Paste
Send MMS
Data tethering & Bluetooth tethering?
Send Contact Card/Phone number using any of the messaging options (attachment or insert address)
Battery life improvements (Yeah right)
Improved in APP notifications with window resizing (Like the Pre)
Free mobile me so it can compete with google on over the air sync.
Turn by turn GPS
Background applications
Lock screen widgets (RSS, email, weather, etc)
Real time widgets on home screen (weather, facebook, G-Talk.
Google voice search integrated into Safari
Support for Shop Savvy (Android app)
Palm Pre in-depth impressions, video, and huge hands-on gallery {Engadget}
Jan 9th 2009 7:15AM This is looking good.
But can it beat the simplicity of the iPod to iPhone upgrade many people have made? iPhone is a hot handset with a great OS. It has a huge appeal thanks to the claimed originality of the iPod lines, and the Mac vs PC rebel status it tries to bring. I wonder if Palm's enviable phone can get a foot in the door? I hope they do, I like to see a company which had been almost floundering a little make a comeback like this. Times are difficult, and companies need something to stay afloat; war breeds technology faster than plain ambition. I'm an iPhone user, but i'm thinking maybe this is a new rebellion to join.
