Sep 29th 2009 2:12AM According to the review at Home Theater Mag, the Pioneer VSX-1019 AH-K receiver has a Faroudja video chip, thus Pioneer must be retrofitting the production line to now use Anchor Bay video chips.

DTS masters their tracks about 4 dB higher than Dolby does. That is what makes it perceptually louder and more bass heavy. If you play them back at the exact same amplitude you might have a hard time telling one from another.
That's why some receiver manufacturers have a circuit built in the knocks that 4 dB out of the DTS signal, it is jiggery-pokery and not sound audio engineering.

May 4th 2009 12:10AM I don't think most of the so called high end audiophiles have ever heard what truly excellent sound is: studio mixing room sound and gear. It simply puts 99% of high end consumer gear in the shade.
Don't believe me? If you live in any decent sized city just phone up one of the better recording studios in the area and ask for a tour. Most studios don't mind this as long as you accomodate yourself to their schedule and are respectfull of their equipment.
Since I trained as an audio engineer back in the late 1980s and have heard some pretty state of the art studio setups, I've had a jaundiced eye and ear for the so called high end.

The off axis viewing is pretty good with the Regza 52RV535U, and since this is the less expensive run of the Regza series, it will be quite useable to you, too, unless you want to sit way off line.
There is a tiny bit of colour shift but nothing to seriously put you off these sets. Buy with confidence :)

Jan 20th 2009 7:18AM I own the Toshiba 52RV535U which also has the SRT feature and it really works well on every type of material. I simply don't know what CNET is unhappy about. I watched the Steelers - Ravens game on Sunday, from the regular old SD cable feed and it looked awesome on my 52 inch screen. Not as good as a Hi Def signal would but WAY better than any of the other SD signals I get, simply because the original signal actually was Hi Def from CBS. The SRT circuit can really improve it over the other channels.
SRT also works great with DVDs. This set is an absolute gem and selling for extremely low prices here in Calgary, Alberta. I paid $1399.00 Canadian for my 52 incher. The only problem I've noticed is the greens are a little too bright right out of the box but I've remedied this by calibrating the TV with the Joe Kane DVE disc. Using the disc's supplied red, green and blue filter I was able to make a few adjustments to the green setting the Color Master settings and it looks just perfect to my eyes.
I can't imagine a better set--especially for the price!
CRTC bashes hopes for two High Fidelity HDTV stations in Canada {Engadget HD}
Sep 7th 2008 2:51AM The original intent of the CRTC was to regulate cultural content over Canadian airwaves in order that Canada not be overwhelmed with American content. What it has become, however, is simply a government toady for the established broadcasters in the country in order to keep competition OUT. This is mostly the Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal corporate community whom Liberal federal governments have pandered to for decades now. AKA "the iron triangle" from which no federal funding escapes. It is the typical of the Canadian "federation" in as much as only the eastern provinces of Ontario and Quebec are served by the feds. There was hope that this would end when the Conservatives took power but it has not materialized. Perhaps it will if the Conservatives win a majority in the upcoming elections ...
Keep in mind that Canada was modeled from its origin in the 1860s to operate like a miniature British Empire. All provinces other than Ontario and Quebec are relegated to mere colonial status, both politically and economically. Thus the governmental system that plagues the nation to this day :(
