Verizon removes gloves, begins 'There's a map for that' anti-AT&T ad campaign (video) {Engadget Mobile}
Oct 6th 2009 1:39PM You know.. I unlocked my Storm too, and I was getting ready to buy an Orange SIM card and use it with my BlackBerry, but I figured that being able to use my US phone number for the month I was abroad was better for me than to save a few bucks using a local SIM. Don't act like US GSM carriers don't charge stratospheric fees for international roaming, just because its using the same wireless standard it does not mean that its any cheaper for you to roam using an American GSM phone than it is for me to roam on my CDMA/GSM Verizon BalckBerry Storm. The point I was trying to make is that with the advent of dual radio CDMA/GSM phones, the claim that you have to go with a US-based GSM carrier is pretty much moot. Now you can pick the best local carrier (GSM OR CDMA) and still have the same exact worldwide roaming capabilities.
Verizon removes gloves, begins 'There's a map for that' anti-AT&T ad campaign (video) {Engadget Mobile}
Oct 6th 2009 11:38AM Really? Are people being fanboys for a wireless standard? I see enough of this crap on video game message boards. I can't believe the lengths people will go to rationalize their choice of wireless provider. What happened to people just picking the provider that has the phone they want or the best coverage in their area? I was a t-mobile customer till I found that Verizon works better where I live.... so I switched--simple as that. Also, does it really matter what provider you choose these days? My Verizon BlackBerry Storm works quite well in the States and worked really well (voice AND data) roaming on the Vodaphone network in the UK and France. With the advent of dual mode CDMA/GSM phones, is there really a need to sacrifice anything? Also, how many times a year do any of you guys travel that the ability to roam on international networks is a major reason for you to choose T-Mobile or AT&T?
Senators mulling a nationwide ban on texting while driving {Autoblog}
Jul 29th 2009 10:55PM This is a states rights issue. Many states, including my home state of Maryland, have such laws on the books and they work out just fine. This kind of legislation should be left to the states to deal with, period. This same type of crap is happening in England, they trot out this "WON'T ANYONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN - HEALTH AND SAFETY!!!!!!!" crap and scare everyone into voting for it while demonizing those who wish to keep a modicum of freedom for themselves. If a state sees that texting while driving is a problem then they should enact the laws to ban it, not have Pelosi and co. have it legislatively crammed down their throats!!!!!
FiOS TV expansions: June 28, 2009 {Engadget HD}
Jun 29th 2009 2:29PM 1) I'm an American of Cuban descent, so your jump to call me a member of the Klan is as misplaced as your attempt to add a racial element to cable TV expansion.
2) You know, Verizon is running a business, and thus why would they offer a premium service to an area where it seems that very few would be able to pay for it? Some estimates place the cost of running fiber optic cable to the premises at almost $3,000 per subscriber! It would be neigh impossible for people in low-income areas (regardless of race) to provide the subscriber numbers for Verizon to make any kind of reasonable return on investment. The constitution does not promise you fast internet, but it sure as hell offers the freedom for you to work your ass off to afford it... maybe if more people had that drive in your community Verizon would see it as a lucrative investment opportunity. You can only play the victim for so long before you have to take responsibility for your own surroundings and work to make a better future for you and your neighbors. My grandparents came to this country to escape life under Castro's rule, they worked hard all their lives and never once had to ask the government for any kind of handout, and when the first neighborhood they moved into went bad... they--GASP--worked harder so they could afford to move!!!! Its all about personal responsibility. This is the 21st century, and while race-relations may not be perfect, they are better than they ever have, and if the biggest thing you have to bitch about is that your internet aint as fast as whitey's and not that you are barred from drinking from the same water fountain... then I would say that you would have to agree.
3) This guy is probably a troll and I just took the bait.

Jun 29th 2009 12:09PM You are making home TV service a racial issue, really, is your life that sad? I know, get Sharpton on the case, he will make sure that FiOS service in predominately minority neighborhoods gets the rightful publicity it deserves!!! Rise up against the man Terry, make sure the outside world knows that no matter your skin color you too can receive the fastest internet service! FiOS at last! FiOS at last! Thank God allmighty FiOS at last!

May 1st 2009 12:36AM I dropped my comcast equipment off at the local office yesterday! I dumped comcast for Verizon FiOS and haven't looked back! 100 more channels, better HD picture quality, much faster internet for less than comcast... It's a no-brainer!

Jun 9th 2008 6:07PM I am just wondering what Apple's plan is for the iPhone in Japan, considering Japan is not that big on using GSM.
