Netflix for PlayStation 3 requires a disc, software solution coming late 2010 {Engadget HD}
Oct 27th 2009 11:30AM I thought the same thing. Burn an image and be on our way. However I believe the disc will be BluRay since it seems to leverage BDLive. There's probably very few people that could take advantage of that situation.
I have to agree with one of the above posters that said it seems this release was hastily announced. I'm sure there'll be a software solution in the future. Late 2010 seems rather far off though.
DirecTV adds "dual live buffers" to its HD DVR {Engadget HD}
Aug 26th 2009 12:57PM Ahhh finally. This is one of the features I missed most when switching from Tivo to the HR21. On the surface it doesn't seem that beneficial and I probably wouldn't be jazzed if I never had the feature but I've been hoping this would get implemented. Awesome..... except as of today I still haven't received the update.
Flat-panel TV sales jump 23% over last year, Vizio leads the way {Engadget HD}
May 11th 2009 10:50PM So higher-end panels aren't selling as well? Good. Maybe the prices will fall a bit. Although I'm not sure how much more. I bought mine last February and it's already $500 cheaper now.
Blockbuster voices "substantial doubt" about ability to survive {Engadget HD}
Apr 7th 2009 11:54AM I gave up on BB way before there was any internet streaming of video (at least as far as legal movie viewing). Every time and I mean every time I rented a movie from their brick and mortar there was a problem. There were times I'd rent one and watch it and have it back that same day yet the next time I'd go in they'd say I'd still have the movie out. My wife cut her card up long ago. I gave them the benefit of doubt and still occasionally used them.... that is until Netflix came along.
Netflix lays out official response to bandwidth capping allegations {Engadget HD}
Mar 24th 2009 9:46AM That override is great unless you're streaming HD. Netflix encodes their HD content at 2.6Mbps. Unfortunately 2.2Mbps ain't going to get it.
DISH Network sees Q4 profit grow 24%, still sheds over 100,000 subscribers {Engadget HD}
Mar 6th 2009 12:55AM I've had both D and E and both are comparable. I dropped both in favor of fiber but that service was slow to add HD so I went back with D since at the time it had the most HD and more importantly had my locals in HD. I don't think E has got my local still in HD. Too bad too. I really liked their service (although D has been equally as good).
Even the NBA's Shawn Marion thinks Blu-ray Discs are too expensive {Engadget HD}
Feb 28th 2009 9:57AM I haven't paid more that 30 bucks for a BD. And I think the only time I paid more than about 20ish was when I bought Wall-E (which was the 3 disc edition). I'm not sure where people are buying all those expensive discs at and I'm sure they're out there somewhere. But a bit of looking around and I'm not having any trouble paying what I consider fair price.
The Simpsons goes HD tonight, new title sequence revealed {Engadget HD}
Feb 15th 2009 8:17PM Maybe the three cables that have the ends ripped off and are arcing are component cables? But knowing Homer he doesn't have it hooked up correctly so you're probably right
The Simpsons finally making high-def debut {Engadget HD}
Jan 25th 2009 6:57PM While the show may not be up to its higher former standards it's certainly not bad. Well certainly as good as most of the drivel that's being broadcasted elsewhere. I for one am stoked to see it in HD.
DirecTV fires up HD locals in Greenville-New Bern, NC {Engadget HD}
Jan 14th 2009 2:39PM Keeping up? Keeping up with whom? I wanted Dish but ended up with Directv because they had HD locals in Indianapolis. I'm not even sure if Dish has added still.
