Dec 18th 2008 10:13PM I spoke with a Executive that is tuned into the happenings with new HD content for the Houston area and says that the takeover from Time Warner has been the main problem with adding channels in the Houston area. The 2nd problem has been that all resources have been at work rebuilding alot of the system after the Hurricane destroyed some of the system. While they are rebuilding these areas, they are also stringing Fiber To The Home! Believe it or not, they are going to try and compete with AT&T on this note as much as they can.
Honestly, I already switched to U-verse and have not had 1 problem from day 1 either with their service. They are about to have at or over 100 HD Linear Channels available to everyone of their subscribers.
I truly do hope that Comcast does get their act together really soon for alot of people's sake since U-verse is not available everywhere in the Houston area.

Dec 18th 2008 12:36AM I must agree with you also from the previous post as well. This would have been the first HD channel they have added since October 07. Their lineup in the Houston area sucks bigtime. U-Verse alone is beating them 2-1 in linear channel wise.
Their commercials are so stupid as well. If they spent all the money that they spend on advertising to upgrade the system here, they might do alot better as well. Their system overall sucks 100%!

Oct 2nd 2008 10:34PM I have had U-Verse since July 2008, and have it hooked up with F.T.T.H. type connection and don't have any compression issues. I have got a 73" DLP and not seen 1 problem at all. We have 3 HDTV's in the house here, granted can only watch 2 of them at anytime in HD, but other than that, the service is excellent. Comcast here in the Houston area, has the suckiest HD Channel Lineup for it being the 4th largest city in the nation. They only have 26 HD Channels here including Local Channels in the Houston Area. Then only have 4 of the Premium Channels offered here also.
Their HD VOD does Rock though, but thats when it works as well.
During the recent Hurricane we had here in the Houston area, I had a whole home generator and when it came on Saturday morning when the hurricane was coming in, I never lost U-Verse service for the 5 days I was without power and running on generator. Everyone Else in the neighborhood has Comcast still, and since their Amps need power to run and they dont have any battery backup, they had no service till the lights came back on!
KUDOS to AT&T for the terrific service during the storm.
I even lost my landline and the U-Verse still worked too.

AT&T takes Total Home DVR to Houston and San Diego {Engadget HD}
Sep 26th 2008 2:48PM If this was launched in the Houston area, I am part of the Houston DMA and I still don't have the update at this time and have tried to reboot and still nothing at all.
I called U-Verse and they told me it was going to be October 7th before it gets officially released here in this area.
HDNet, HDNet Movies coming to Comcast {Engadget HD}
Sep 4th 2008 10:47PM Comcast in the Houston market, which was formerly Time Warner Cable, has had these 2 channels, but they were on a package all by themself for an additional $3.00 per month, wonder if they are planning on charging for these channels in the other areas or drop the charge here possibly?
Guess we shall wait and see here!

Jul 27th 2008 1:05AM I have to say that here in the Houston area, we are now getting all the three major networks in full glorious HD broadcasts now.
KPRC = Channel 2 =NBC affiliate
KHOU = Channel 11 = CBS affiliate
KTRK = Channel 13 = ABC affiliate
The other 2 networks with news have not switched as of yet.
KRIV = Channel 26 = Fox affiliate
KHCW = Channel 39 = CW affiliate
Not really sure when they planning on doing anything in HD.
The best out of the 3 major network channels I would say is: Channel 2 = NBC affiliate.

Jul 22nd 2008 6:49PM I must admit, I get the U-Verse 2/2 service here just outside of the Houston area, and truly not that impressed since you could watch as many TV's you wanted to in HD with Comcast Cable here. The only reason I switched was because of the amount of HD channels that they carry here in a big metropolitan area. I do miss things like my Weather Channels on Cable from the local affiliates and The Weather Channel Local on The 8's.
I haven't had any issues except with the known HDMI issue they have with the DVR boxes that they offer you here with U-Verse.
Wonder when ATT plans on fixing a few of the other bugs they still got in their system as well? ex: macro-blocking, pixelation?

Jun 29th 2008 7:52PM I'm not sure where you live at then, because where I live at, all channels here are now fully-digital up here in the woodlands area. They have been for about 2 weeks now. As far as the On-Demand on channel 1, i don't think it looks dim at all.. but if you dont like it, just go to the proper channels starting with 901 and you'll be able to go channel by channel from there to pick from the various content then.

Jun 20th 2008 12:46AM I just wanted to comment on this matter, Houston has already gone 100% Digital Simulcast right now, think they will probably shut-down analog tv by year's end here now. Plans here are to have 90 HD Channels by the year end here now. That's not even showcasing what they got going on with Channel 1 On Demand. Looks good so far though.
Let me know if anyone else is seeing channels appearing in digital in their city as well.
Comcast looking to sell outlying markets {Engadget HD}
May 26th 2008 4:04PM In response to Stiltskin, Honestly Comcast in Houston more than likely won't sell off since they have spent millions of dollars during the transition from Time Warner Cable. I just went to visit my grandmother in Austin where Time Warner is still a griphold there, and there service sucks worse than what ours does here in Houston.
You should see loads of changes here in the Houston area according to a good friend I know that is a head technician for the Houston Comcast Region....
