WD TV-2 spruces up Western Digital's already attractive media player offering {Engadget}
Aug 16th 2009 3:23AM If it supports UPNP, I will buy one the very second that it comes out.
Mobile DTV standard in the US gets raised to "proposed standard" status {Engadget HD}
Jul 7th 2009 5:46PM Why oh why do we have to continue to use our own proprietary format? I certainly hope that even if this gets mandated, we'll still get mobile devices with DVB-H support so we can use them when abroad.
Cable companies miss tru2way deadline, insist it's no big deal {Engadget HD}
Jul 2nd 2009 2:02PM With tru2way, you only need a cable card to get encrypted channels, if it's unencrypted switched video would work even without the cable card. So if your Tivo supported tru2way you would not need the special box anymore.
Hauppauge puts a fresh coat of paint on its newly-acquired PCTV tuners {Engadget HD}
May 16th 2009 3:23AM The haven't seemed to fix the tech support yet. One week of contacting them about my Pinnacle PCTV HD PCI (800i) and still no response from them. Every time I call, the tech says they will forward it to the higher level techs who will call back, but then they never do.
Fox VP details soccer HD plans {Engadget HD}
Apr 17th 2009 3:43PM American's use the term Soccer because what the British call Football is really "Association Football" and Rugby is really "Rugby Football". We just took the "soc" from Association and added an "er" to get Soccer.
The real surprising thing: American Football is actually a variant of Canadian football, which was a variant of Rugby Football. American's originally played Association football, but when our colleges went to play Canadian colleges, they were playing based off of Rugby Football rules. So the American colleges switched rules and thus began the evolution to American Football (which I like to call Handegg).
Win a Lexmark X7675 wireless printer and two cartridges {Engadget}
Aug 27th 2008 2:51AM That's a nice printer. I've got a Lexmark E120n Laser printer (which is great btw), but this would be nice to replace my aging HP All-In-One.
Linux creator disses Leopard file system {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Feb 7th 2008 1:05AM This dumb post (the "Leopard" filesystem is not actually the Leopard filesystem but HFS+, which has been the Mac OS filesystem since pre OS X days - You might have wanted to point that out) has finally driven me to remove this site from my feed reeder. I haven't seen a decent post from this blog in a long time.
