California mandates TV energy efficiency improvements by 2011 {Engadget}
Nov 20th 2009 11:01AM The "best" part is the numbers are looking at max power consumption, which is an unrealistic metric for plasma TVs since their power consumption varies dependent on the image on the screen. Typical TV content has a rather low APL so they aren't really power hogs. An LCD TV on the other hand uses basically the same amount of power all the time (excluding sets that dim their backlight).
Perhaps California can implement a ban on bad legislation next.

Lenovo's IdeaPad S12 finally on sale with Windows 7, NVIDIA Ion {Engadget}

Look at something like a $599 Acer 1810T (w/ SU7300) and compare it to the $599 Ideapad S12, and tell me what the S12 still has going for it?
Or perhaps even worse, compare the $399 Acer 1410 (w/ SU2300) to the Ideapad S12. It's $200 cheaper, has a vastly superior CPU, and it's Intel GS45 (4500MHD) chipset isn't too bad.

ATI Radeon HD 5750 brings HDMI bliss to HTPCs for $110 {Engadget HD}
Oct 14th 2009 12:18PM I'm sure that's not quiet enough for any HTPC I'd build. It needs passive cooling, which is a big stretch given it's TDP.

Buffalo's 16GB 5mm USB Thumbkey: It's really small {Engadget}
Jun 25th 2009 11:41AM Of course all of this neglects the fact that Buffalo doesn't sell any USB flash drives in the US after Sandisk sued them for patent infringment, so the vast majority of the people commenting can't even get one.
