Oct 22nd 2009 11:29PM Dick Ward---- yeah, I get the whole Netflx thing. I am just oldschool about it. I don'r rent. I wantch a lot of premium movies and buy a lot of burays. I a, not one to poke my head in blockbuster and rent something. I feel I am pretty on top of movies and no what I want to see. I either go to the cinema, buy on bluray/dvd, or wating until it hits a premium ( a real premium, not MGM with their commercials now. If I like it enough I buy it on bluray/dvd.

What makes me sick people that watch movies on TNT and other basic cable channels. They are cut for commercials and cut up the movie. They stick. OAR or not, the movie channels ast least don't cut up the movie. It is good enough to see the flim and make a decision whtether to buy or not.

If you had FIOS, which has the capacity for these, would you rather have or not have them if it came at no additional cost to your Starz subscription?

It doesn't make you special or cool that you can point out flaws of a cable premium channel. We all know that the premium channels do their share of cropping and audio "normalizing." But speaking for myself, the more channels of movies we have, the better. I have found SO MANY hidden gems of movies on premium channels and then later went out and bought the disc. I am not going to spend $30 on something I never heard to add to my bluray collection. But I might catch a flick on Indieplex that I fall in love with and then go out and buy it.

You can say, "get it Netflix." Well, for one, I am not a Netflixer (by choice), and even if I was, I wouldn't be ordering movies I'd never heard of, I'd build my queue around movies on my wishlist that I want to see. I wouldn't stumble across an excellent movie like I do with premium channels.

Oct 21st 2009 9:25AM This is good news. FIOS will probably pick these up. They carry all currently existing premium HD channels except Starz West for some reason. They have all the HBO/MAX's, Showtimes/TMCs, and all the other Starz channels in HD. On the other hand we have my local cable company, Bright House Networks, who carries only the flagship station of each service in HD.

Disney releasing 14 classics on Blu-ray over the next 7 years {Engadget HD}

Sep 23rd 2009 9:09PM This is stupid but no different than Fox's release schedule of The Simpsons seasons on DVD. They figure most people couldn't afford to buy them all at once and release them on a schedule so even the bottom feeders can budget for them and buy them if they want them bad enough. If Fox released all 10+ remaining seasons immediately right now, many people would give up on their collection, realizing they couldn't afford $350+ to own them all. But spread $350+ over 5 years and it fits into almost any budget. Because of this, even rich people that can afford them have to wait too.

Feb 9th 2009 10:50PM I am just tickled pink that I get to buy yet another Donnie Darko Disc. I love it. "And that shelf is my Donnie Darko collection... moving on, that is my...."

Obama's administration supports June DTV transition postponement {Engadget HD}

Jan 17th 2009 10:55AM Yeah, the type of people that are still using an analog TV and an antenna fall right into the demographic of big bucks spending, don't they? You've got to be kidding. Ever watch the broadcast networks in the day? The advertising is geared towards people looking for handouts. You'll see plenty of law ads fishing for people with diseases, car accident victims, and anything else where the person has a shot at getting something for nothing. Maybe losing TV would be the best thing for these daytime TV watchers. They could go out and get jobs and buy a newer TV or buy their own converter box. Instead, we are enabling the idiots by making sure they still have TV after the transition is made.

Is this why I bust my behind running a business, burning the midnight oil trying to get ahead? So I can pay for these people to have TV because they don't work and buy their own $50 converter box?

Cut 'em off. Keep the deadline!

Obama's administration supports June DTV transition postponement {Engadget HD}

Jan 16th 2009 4:57PM So typical of a democratic president and the democrats in congress. This transition has been delayed long enough. I would bet the lives of both my children that not everybody requesting these vouchers is using an antenna anyway. The vouchers are government waste at its best. If you have cable or satellite you don't need the converter. I have read posts by dozens of people on other industry related sites that are just trying to get their freebee and don't really need it. Well, it isn't free people. If only people that needed vouchers for the converters ordered them there would have been plenty. It doesn't help matters either that companies like Best Buy and Radioshack advertise by saying "free after government voucher." They should have banned that ignorant practice when they designed the program. It is human nature to take something if it is free. You may have 50,000 pens at home but when you walk by a vendor at a show giving away pens you grab one just because it is free. Well, this program isn't really free. And before you say it is being paid for by auctioning off of the analog spectrum, that may be true, but those funds could have gone for other things, thus making it cost American taxpayers and NOT FREE.
