90 percent of consumers think they should be allowed to back up DVDs {Engadget HD}

Apr 10th 2009 6:02PM I agree with archiving my originals. I've made "main movie only" copies of all my daughter's Disney movies. No more previews - she plops the disc in (car or the portable player in her room) and straight to the movie.

Plus, those stream from my server to the TVIX devices (in .ISO format, so preserves chapters and alternate soundtracks).

My originals remain un-damaged :)

Emotiva UMC-1 preamp processor gets an estimated delivery date {Engadget HD}

Apr 3rd 2009 6:18PM Wah. I have been looking forwards to upgrading for a couple years. I am one of the original buyers of the Emotiva DMC-1 and MPS-1 pairs (back when sold by AV123) in 2004.

However, I am saddened that this unit eliminates the balanced audio output - that the MPS amps all have as an optional input.

KRK Systems reveals Ferrari Yellow Rokit5 G2CB studio monitors {Engadget HD}

Oct 17th 2008 2:14AM Wow - not sure where you got your $299 price from, but your own link shows:

"$149, $199 and $249 for the 5, 6 and 8 inch versions, respectively"

Still, frigging ugly. I'll stick to my AV123 "Rocket" 7.1 speakers in my theater, and my new AV123 "X-Series" 5.1 in my family room. Much better sound and value.

Nikon D90 DSLR review roundup {Engadget}

Sep 16th 2008 12:18AM I received my D90 (from Amazon) 3 days ago. It is a great camera. I used to use a Nikon N60 (with a 28-200 lens) that I bought in 1999. This feels far more solid, responsive, and takes great pictures.

I'm amazed at how quickly the flash recharges - I can take a shot a second with no problem at all (not auto-mode).

The VR lens takes "OK" pictures at 1/8 second - it amazed me. To say that the flash & camera combination is "powerful" is an understatement. I took a picture of my pitch-black (light-proof curtains) movie theater, and it lit the whole thing up with just the internal flash from 17' from the screen.

Tripod picture in daytime (I have not unloaded the theater pic from my D90 yet) with a different camera:

Pioneer intros 60-inch KRP-600M KURO plasma in Japan {Engadget}

Jun 11th 2008 5:10PM Hmmm... $8k for 60 inches of HDTV...

Or... just under $2k for the new Samsung 67" LED-based DLP.

And the DLP uses half the power.

Emotiva ER 5.0 speakers get reviewed {Engadget HD}

Apr 4th 2008 1:43AM These would be at the top of my short list for new living room speakers (I have the "Emotiva Big Dogs" (amp & processor) in my theater), but the looks are a deal breaker.

Instead, I'll go with the Rocket X-series, as they're available in several wood finishes - one of which perfectly matches our living room cabinetry. I already have 7 Rocket (AV123.com) speakers in my theater with my Emotivas.

Sony Alpha A200 DSLR review roundup {Engadget}

Mar 27th 2008 5:45PM Yeah, I'm interested in the Sony cameras.

Oh wait. I'm a Nikon guy. I've got a very-loved Nikon film camera. With a great 28-200 superzoom lens.

However, I'm probably buying a Sony because my damn expensive lens isn't right for digital.

No, apparently I need internal motors. Plus, due to the crop factor of the Nikon sensor, I need more like a 17mm lower end.

So, apparently, my "collection of Nikon" lenses are pretty worthless. Even ePray seems to think so.

And, Nikon doesn't have live view. No, I won't need it often - but when I do, it will be nice to have.

Netflix cops to surveying customers about Xbox 360 rentals {Engadget HD}

Mar 26th 2008 2:41PM I have a PS3 primarily for BD. Yeah, I now own 5 games, but play maybe 1 hour/month.

I'd buy a second PS3 for the main downstairs TV in a heartbeat if it gave me access to Netflix "on demand".

HD DVD and Blu-ray releases on February 26th, 2008 {Engadget HD}

Feb 25th 2008 9:18PM @regeya

You took the bait. I'm pretty sure, at this point, Nfinity is making the best of it: What is, is. Don't mope. Have fun by poking fun at yourself (subtly) and make intelligently sarcastic posts that LOOK like the "old nfinity", but are actually smartly done.

Actually, you didn't take the bait; you were fooled by is pretty darn smart post.

I have to hand it to nfinity. He's standing up and moving on, and being witty about it :) (and he fooled you)

Harman Kardon hops on the Blu-ray bandwagon {Engadget HD}

Feb 14th 2008 12:38AM Hey, nfinity... I've been offering a wager to you for a long time (especially, when you said "I BET... HD-DVD will win".

You still up for that wager? Name your price. Name your terms. BD will win, HD-DVD will give up.

First, you personally made a big deal out of the HD-DVD vs BD "weekly tallies". You posted MORE THAN ANYONE on how HD-DVD was improving against BD.

NOT ONCE... Not FUCKING once, in those early posts, did you compare HD-DVD to standard DVD.

Now, when BD has slaughtered HD-DVD... you finally, and pathetically, start comparing all HD media to SD.

Uh... what? Hello? What about your own PERSONAL posts? You conveniently forget them.

Wow.

I hope you eventually get enough lunch money from mommy to actually BUY a player this year.

Of course, it will probably be HD-DVD, since they'll literally pay your dumb ass to buy one.
