How to automatically skip commercials in Windows 7 Media Center {Engadget HD}
Nov 7th 2009 6:20PM I'm not sure, I'll see if I can get Andy to take a look at this post.
The best HD sports on TV this week {Engadget HD}
Nov 7th 2009 2:17PM That would just be crazy talk. I mean why would I knock the two highest rated sports in the US? I can make fun of baseball when the world series gets lower rating then a college football team between two no names.
Managed Copy hits Blu-ray Discs December 4th, but you still can't use it {Engadget}
Nov 7th 2009 12:30PM RandomGuy,
I already had this debate (link below) and the bottom line is you can't make copies of HD DVDs without breaking AACS. But if you want to rehash the whole thing, read the old discussion first, then lets pick up from there.

Nov 7th 2009 12:08PM tchandleriii,
HD DVD had it from the beginning huh, then lets see you make a Managed Copy of your HD DVDs. Exactly, you can't because AACS wasn't finalized while HD DVD existed. If it did still exist it'd probably be in the same boat since AACS was just finalized in June.
RandomGuy,
Typical HD DVD half truth. Blu-ray always planned to support Managed Copy, what Microsoft thankfully stood up for was MANDATORY Managed Copy, which like you said Blu-ray now has too. This is an important distinction because what use is a Movie Juke Box if it doesn't work with all of your movies?

Nov 7th 2009 11:55AM Yes Mike it doesn't work perfect, and there really isn't a solution. But ShowAnalzyer does get better with each version and with some help Andy will fix the DTB add-in. Believe it or not but I've been waiting to write this for a long time hoping the the parts would be more reliable, but got tired of waiting.
Ultimately I'm glad when it does work and content to hit the 30 second skip button when it doesn't, but I can see where some would rather not use it at all if it doesn't work most of the time.

Nov 7th 2009 8:22AM Both HD DVD and Blu-ray used AACS for DRM, so while there were differences, this wasn't one of them.

Nov 7th 2009 8:21AM Managed Copy can use different encryption it depends on the application. The initial implementation is expected to use Microsoft's PlayReady DRM.

Nov 7th 2009 8:16AM Whether you need an NTSC depends on your provider and the channels you want to watch. Yes some cable companies only broadcast some channels in analog and if you want to watch one of those channels and don't care that it is SD, then you'll need a NTSC tuner.
But many providers today broadcast 1-99 in both NTSC and SD digital.
Even better though, is that most of the channels under 99 that are worth watching (read HD) are also broadcast in the clear. In fact these are the channels you can actually watch with the Duet as channels like Discovery HD and SiFi are encrypted so the only Digital Cable Tuners with CableCARDs can tune them.
So in review.
Digital Cable Tuner with CableCARD can tune everything including NTSC.
The Duet can tune over-the-air ATSC as well as clear QAM cable channels.

Nov 5th 2009 5:23PM If you set the right and left key to do something and it isn't doing it while watching a recording, then the add-in isn't working and so it won't skip commercials. First check to make sure you installed the Windows 7 version and not the Vista one (assuming you are using 7). Then try rebooting and look in the logs for errors. You might try to uninstall and reinstall it and you can also check under Settings in Media Center for the Extras and see if it shows up.
If none of this helps then go to the babgvant forums and post and Andy will try to help you.
