Sony's XEL-1 OLED TV landing in Europe in 2009? Too little, too late. {Engadget HD}

Aug 14th 2008 9:52AM Couldn't you buy this on ebay, even if you live in china. Hdmi input is universal, right. So what is the point. Besides, I saw this thing in action and was not impressed. The picture looks like any other Sony or Samsung LCD.

87% of PlayStation 3 owners watching Blu-ray movies? Survey says yes {Engadget HD}

Jul 5th 2008 2:52PM O.K. everyone. The real question is, How many people that own a PS3 have an HDTV to play the PS3 on. I bet you that of those 87%, not all have an HDTV, so they are probably watching Blu-Ray movies in SD. So why in the world did they buy a PS3 in the first place, let alone watching Blu-Ray movies in SD. Also, I hear this a lot. Some people say, I can't see the difference between DVD and Blu-Ray. Then I ask myself. But you can see the difference betwen 1080i and 1080p. You paid extra money for something you can't see. This point was brought up in the last Podcast. People pay premiuim for the things they can not see (1080p), but will will not invest money into PS3 or Blu-Ray player, which even a blind man can see the difference between. Maybe they don't like to see a $400.00 price tag. Then all of a sudden, what they have is good enough. Not for long. When they see Blu-Ray movie on a 120Hz Samsung or Sony, they will stop look and listen because you have never, ever seen a picture like that before.

Warner bringing 300 (again), JFK and Casablanca to Blu-ray this fall {Engadget HD}

Jun 26th 2008 10:23AM I don't have a problem with re-releases, but I hope they clean up that swarm of bees graininess on the new release. It is a great movie with great sound and picutre, but it is not demo material with that weird efect.

Matsushita stumbles, LG becomes top plasma supplier once again {Engadget HD}

May 8th 2008 1:12PM The reason they are number one in the world is because the rest of the world can afford LG because they are not high priced or overpriced. In the U.S., very few people buy LG and would rather buy Samsung (the most patents in the last few years and very innovative), Panasonic and Sony. Especially in Eastern Europe, all they push is LG and some off brands that would never sell in U.S. I just want to know, how many Americans prefer LG over Samsung, Panasonic or Sony. I am not saying that LG is a bad brand, they just have not set any benchmarks when it comes to brightness, contrast, color, 120hz or whatever. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Sony XEL-1 estimated to last customers only half as long as expected {Engadget HD}

May 8th 2008 11:17AM Firts of all, I want to say something about this particular model. I saw it in person and the screen was soo small, I could not beleive the price they were charging for a screen twice the size of my psp. They claim 1,000,000 to 1 contras ratio, but it did not look any better than a 21" lcd. I just can't get excited about 11" screen. My psp looks just as good on a 5" screen, but blow the picture up to 55" and we'll see if it still looks that good. I understand that it's new tech, but come on, 11" screen. Wasn't that normal size screen in the 50's. Anyway, and what is up with the stand with all the inputs? If they are going to slim the TV, slim the whole thing. The new slim LCD did it, I don't need a skinny tv and an armoire for the inputs that sits as a piece of furniture. It's like making a super light electric car but have a trailer as a battery.

Xbox 360 HD DVD drives going for €9.99 in Ireland {Engadget HD}

May 6th 2008 10:22AM This is great news for Eastern European countries where electronic items are really expensive. Especcially places like Russia, Bosnia, Latvia, etc. They can enjoy all the movies that are pretty much up to date in HD and actually afford it. Now if they only had an HDTV first. But hey, there are always people that spend too much money on things they care about, so why not blow your 3 month salary on an HDTV and start enjoying the future of entertainment.

PureDepth's Multi-Layer Display technology to ship soon {Engadget HD}

Apr 28th 2008 5:58PM O.k., I am going to say this once for all. We already have that. It is here. It's called 120hz refresh rate. It is not so much about fast motion and sharper picture, but it is depth effect you get. No need for multi layer LCD, just go to your local Best Buy and watch a blu-ray movie on a Samsung or Sony 120hz and be amazed. It is the future. A lot of people can not put their finger on in but I saw it the first time I saw the effect six months ago. Check it out for yourself.

Sony looking to stuff Blu-ray recorders in select LCD HDTVs? {Engadget HD}

Apr 7th 2008 12:32PM This is a great idea. Sony knows how to increase market share and this seems like the best way on top of PS3 success. It makes new LCD owners buy blu-rays even if they never though about it before. This would have to work. They only have to be careful about pricing this (No rip-offs) and they need to include full HDMI 1.3 support (Audio and Video).

Can 3D cinemas really take off? {Engadget HD}

Mar 28th 2008 2:06PM I just want to say that it is a great technology but not for everything. I want options, and having an option to switch between 2D and 3D would be great. Because it doesn't matter how great 3D is, I don't want to watch milk and car commercials in 3D, period. Some movies and shows, yes, but not all the time. There is such a thing as having too much of a good thing. So it's like 120hz LCD 3D effect, it's great, butn I don't want it all the time. But 3D xxx movies, I liike.

PS3 firmware 2.20 bringing BD-Live interactive Blu-ray this month {Engadget HD}

Mar 20th 2008 11:00PM Yes, but i'll tell you one thing about Bose. I have a 10 year old Bose system in my car with Alpine deck and I have many people ask "What is this sound system. Do you have subs?" I don't. it's all factory. The bass, the treble and mid range are superb, and my brother spend thousands on JBL system and I don't think it has the same sound uniformity and dynamics. Anyway, back to the home audio. I also have a friend with 321 Bose system. I thought it was overated. Then we watched Apocalypto on blu-ray using only optical cable and I was amazed. I have heard some high end systems, but the sound blew me away. I heard sounds I have never heard befor. And it al;so enveloped the room from two tiny speaker. There is something about Bose.
