Sony PlayTV already working (a little) in New Zealand {Engadget HD}
Jun 22nd 2009 12:03AM Some major developments PlayTV should be fully up and running in New Zealand with next firmware update.
Mark Bunting Producer of PlayTV UK has started a blog and is answering questions with VERY incouraging news for New Zealand.
All we need is AAC/AAC+ support, Dolby Digital 5.1 (at the moment PlayTV only supports DD2.0) and MPEG-4 recording....all of this is being addressed!!
The only thing left is the New Zealand MHEG5 EPG support (at the moment PlayTV supports the EIT EPG which in New Zealand PlayTV works fine on now and next and 5 to 10 events ahead)

What will be in the next PS3 firmware update? {Joystiq Playstation}
Nov 4th 2007 10:07PM 1) Beable to play .mov and other video files
2) Show thumb nails on ext hard drive in video folders (this is a biggie for me as I have an external 500GB hard drive which I put all my HD 1080i video clips on with out thumb nails makes at hard to find things.)Photo (picture) thumb nail works 100%
3) Be able to run HDMI and composite/component or SVideo at the same time so you can run 2 monitors at the same time or run composite video into an external RF modulator etc.
4) Better quality web broser.
