DISH Network launches SCI FI HD and USA HD! {Engadget HD}

Apr 20th 2008 8:34PM Bout time Dish, just FX and Spike left and I'll be happy. Need Nip/Tuck, Dirt, and UFC in HD. WOAI in san antonio would be nice too. Greedy jerks.

Universal exec says studio and HD DVD are moving forward {Engadget HD}

Jan 22nd 2008 11:52PM I own 37 HD-DVDs and 13 Blu-Rays. I have had playback problems with F4RSS and POC2 on my PS3 that required firmware. My HD-a30 is still sitting at 1.3 that it came out of the box with and I have never had a problem watching my HD-DVDs, I have managed to get 4 HD-DVD's from netflix and have not had a problem with any of those either. I have however had problems with both the PS3 and A30 locking up during S-DVD playback. Go figure

Universal exec says studio and HD DVD are moving forward {Engadget HD}

Jan 22nd 2008 11:45PM I think what Mr. Graffeo and the rest of us out there who still support HD DVD understand, that the Blu fanbois dont, is that Blu-Ray has no chance of ever becoming mainstream. It is much too confusing, quirky, and only exists today becuase it was included in the PS3 and nintendo can't make wiis fast enough. Hell the BDA even said flat out at CES that the only BD player they would recommend buying would be a PS3, and that was a spokesman who didn't work for sony.

Sony is the CE worlds Jim Jones, dont be a fool and drink the blu kool-aid........
I did, and sometimes I kick my PS3 for no good reason, just becuase it feels good.

Blu-ray early adopters "knew what they were getting into," apparently {Engadget HD}

Jan 14th 2008 11:33PM HD-DVD was not rushed to market, it was a finished spec. Although the A1 was a BEAST of a box. Blu-Ray was waaaayyyyy rushed to market. Read up on the history. Sony was ready to go HD-DVD for the PS3, toshiba told them it wouldn't be ready for launch in time, so sony went with Phillips and thier work on Blu-Ray to get the PS3 out in time to compete with the 360. Turned out for sony a bad move as blu-ray delays further delayed the PS3, mostly due to figuring out the durabis coating part as PS3 games would have lasted no more then a couple of months fromt hier inital testing. It appears that no matter what Toshiba does HD-DVD is going the way of LaserDisc. If I didn't hate sony so much, I'd feel bad for the billion and half dollars or so this whole format war has cost them. At least it looks like the PS3 will actually start making them money soon.

HD DVD fires back, slashes hardware & software prices {Engadget HD}

Jan 14th 2008 11:22PM I never said it wasnt fair. Just that toshi could maybe keep their format alive by giving away the equal $ amount of hardware. Why do you blu-bois always get so worked up?

HD DVD fires back, slashes hardware & software prices {Engadget HD}

Jan 14th 2008 8:26PM Maybe toshiba should just give them away? With the report about sony giving Fox $120mm and WB $500mm out now, it would seem that giving away 4 Million HD-DVD players would cost them $600mm,less then the $620mm Sony spent on bribes and would help them offset the PS3 BD base.

For the Blu-bois still denying the 120mm and 500mm numbers. 1. This is from a legitiamte newspaper. 2. WB and FOx have not actually denied that they recieved the money.

Toshiba's HD-D3 going for $100 on Boxing Day {Engadget HD}

Dec 24th 2007 10:26PM I'm dual format as well and I paid $279 for my full spec HD-A30 to replace my 1st gen player. HD4, I agree with the annoying 1080i thing. 1080P is noticably better then 1080i, especially in action movies, to my eyes I even prefer 720p to 1080i. Actually, I prefer to watch movies on my 720p 50 " HP pl5060N plasma over my 1080p 52" Sammy LN-T5271F LCD. But I think thats more of a black level and color warmth thing than anything else. I do think the blu-ray web bloggers, yourself inculded, make much too big of a deal out of the 1080p thing. Blu-Ray will have many advantages over HD-DVD if they would get the Full Spec profile 2.0 players out, and it makes you sound silly to harp on the one low end model HD-DVD player being 1080i. Especially if you go to bestbuy.com and look at the flat panel display counts, which I have posted below. I think its very cool for toshiba to make a 1080i/720p only HD palyer to save customers $50-100 when half of the HD-DVD's currently available are still not 1080p.

Max Native Resolution
1080p (80)
1080i (3)
720p (78)

Amazon pushes BD-UP5000 release date back to February {Engadget HD}

Dec 24th 2007 10:05PM Hopefully they are going to ship it profile 1.1 ready? That or they are going to ramp up production and mass introduce at a lower price point?
Wishful thinking I'm sure.

Panasonic showing a 150-inch plasma at CES? {Engadget HD}

Dec 24th 2007 10:02PM Price is one thing, but I wonder what the thing will weigh. I guess you will need an I-beam structure to hold the thing up

EchoStar now officially called DISH Network {Engadget HD}

Dec 9th 2007 9:11PM Maybe this isn't confusing at all. Echostar is making a bid in the FCC auction for the 700Mhz band. AT&T is as well. Thus, AT&T and Echostar can't talk about AT&T buying Dish. Now that Dish is seperate company, the deal with AT&T might be back on. That or it's a survival tatic for Echostar if dish loses their DVR's because of the Tivo lawsuit.
