We won't cancel our trips to Vegas just yet, but
Boxee is planning on giving users an early peek at its new beta release -- with all new UI, queue, navigation and search features -- December 7 at the Music hall of Williamsburg. Beta Unveiling visitors will be the first to get their hands on the new version and see new applications being launched by partners, leading to early access beta testers giving it a four week shakedown run before the planned wide release January 7 at CES. Any ideas what form Boxee might take in this next step on its
road to commercial viability?

If they make the UI faster, offer it for the AppleTV and have HW acceleration so at least 480p Flash content on Hulu plays smoothly, I’ll be a camper.

Agreed on the UI speed. I don't care how pretty it is, I just want it to work quickly.
As for hardware acceleration, that's a limitation on Flash, not Boxee. Adobe's working on that, but who knows when they'll get that sorted, and how effectively.

I'm hoping for better scrubbing on all codecs and containers, as well as resume. Another big pain is not being able to manual tag video files. Sometimes the coverart just isnt what I would like and Id like to be able to change it, right now its a little bit of a mess to do.

I just hate that if Boxee doesn't automatically detect the metadata for a movie in my collection, it just isn't displayed. If I tell that joker that my movies are all in a folder called "Movies", every frickin' MKV and AVI file in that folder should show up when I click "Movies" in Boxee.
