Microsoft temporarily suspends Sky Player for Xbox 360

"Very fast," "a dream," "fantastic." It looks like you can add "on hiatus" to the list of superlatives -- at least for the time being. That boffo Sky Player that Microsoft debuted for the Xbox 360? "Suspended." Why, you ask? "Due to an unforeseen technical issue." Luckily for Britons and ex-pats, the £15 monthly service should resume tomorrow, barring any further technical issues. In the meantime, it looks like the poor avatar above will be stuck watching Benny Hill on Netflix like the rest of us. Statement after the break.
Microsoft Statement on Sky Player for Xbox 360
The Sky Player on Xbox 360 service did successfully launch early this morning, it has subsequently been suspended due to an unforeseen technical issue. With so much excitement and interest in the service, we'd much prefer to ensure that our customers enjoy the highest possible quality of service. We would like to take this opportunity to apologise to our customers who have attempted to access the service today. Sky Player engineers are hard at work to resolve the problem - we expect to have the full service available tomorrow.

More like legal conditions, which is why they do not offer IPTV on the platform in the USA. Oh, they were, but then they got into trouble (contractual) for attempting to compete with a partner. I bet that same partner is trying to keep them from sourcing from abroad.
Rumor? Hmm. :)

I would love to be albe to use this in the states that way I could get the British feeds off all the soccer matches instead of the shitty US feeds.

I'd hardly count crashing horribly within a few hours a "successful" launch, why do they feel the need to come out with such BS?

"the £15 monthly service"
That's not quite right.
It's free (excepting the live stuff so as not to screw with their multi-room pricing) for existing Sky subscribers.

I have not been able to find out the details of this. I am assuming this will not be available in the US? Is this just a way for current sky suscribers to get their TV? I thought I saw somewhere that you don't need a subscription, but I am not sure how that would work.

I'm sorry but why should we care about this in the US?
invisiblekid75 @ Oct 28th 2009 4:54PM
I dunno. It;s not like us Brits get anything you cant except its via the 360.
Oh and Engadet?

We don't get the Netflix in the UK. Suck to be us eh? No Flix and for now no SKY.

I don't see what the big deal is. I notice both Brits and Canadian English speakers come on Engadget. This and the "sister" Engadget site are English versions, so people are going to go where their language is, right? Why shoudn't there be reporting for the English community in general?
I've seen they have some foreign language sites too, but they don't do English speakers any good, do they? So where're Engish speakers outside the US going to look if they want to read Engadget? At the English version of Engadget. Can't we all just get along, LOL!
DEEZNUTZ @ Oct 28th 2009 4:53PM
They have Benny Hill on Netflix? Instant Queue I mean...
