Though they've been floating around retail channels for a few weeks, Best Buy and Netflix have finally made official a partnership bringing streaming to the latest
Insignia Blu-ray players. The NS-BRDVD3 runs $179, while the NS-WBRDVD edition tosses in WiFi for $20 more, while they won't stream out of the box, a firmware update just made available should add all that Watch Instantly goodness. These two keep the (we'll be nice and call it plain) styling of earlier models, and likely live up to the family reputation of "basic Blu-ray playback at a bargain" reported on the
second generation of players. Of course, the BD-P1600 offers more features and a nicer reputation at about the same price, but Reward Zone members may want to think twice, with AVS Forum posters mentioning the NS-BRDVD3 can be had for just $99.99 through the 24th. Decisions, decisions.

No BB store brands for me. I'll jump on BR when a respectable brand brings the prices to more affordable level, under 150. Oh and no profile 1.1 boxes either.

The Wal-Mart by my house selld the Samsung BD-P1600 for $149.96. They had an open-box one for $100 last week. Of course, I live in a small town where they're probably pretty hard to sell.

I just picked up a Pioneer (profile 2.0) for 179.99 with a 30.00 rebate

What about older players like the Panasonic BD35?

So why the hell isn't it on my PS3 yet?

Probably a limited time exclusive for Xbox360, kinda like a game comes out for one system, then the other a few weeks or months later. The Netflix CEO said he would like to start streaming to the PS3, so it sounds like its a matter of time, due to my suspected reason above.

I have an Insignia MP3 player and an Insignia 19" tube TV, both of which have been running just fine for more than two years. Only now, after almost daily use, has the MP3 player started to show that the battery isn't holding a charge like it should.
When it comes to getting a basic BD player for the wife and kids who will probably never have use for profile 2.0 but *will* be able to use our Netflix account, that $150 box will work beautifully. So, I'm not fearing this purchase like others are -- or is it brand-name snobbery that's keeping them from buying it?

The quality of Best Buy house brands is dubious at best. Take a look at this article on Besy Buy power supplies.

My latest Netflix envelope had a coupon for $50 off this player good through the rest of the week.

I'm currently considering this...it'll have to happen tomorrow or not for me since I am leaving town tomorrow night.
I have long been dubious of the Insignia brand. I've always bought brand.
That changed with my most recent big screen TV purchase.
I bought a 42in Insignia. I was cruising Consumer Reports' website and was surprised to see that the Insignia was their top recommendation in the 42in class. Having always bought brand names, I commenced to doing research online. What I eventually was able to uncover was that the TV in question was essentially a rebranded LG. What Best Buy and other companies do with their inhouse brands is contract with company that purchases the "left over parts" from "last years" models of brand names and then put them together and stick their own label on them. It just so happened that the 42in Insignia was nearly all LG. The parts almost all came for LG's "leftovers." The TV has, thus far, worked great for me, and at an incredible price reduction.
Now, I don't know what parts make up this BR player, but I intend to try and find out...but for 99 bucks...this may be the perfect entry level player regardless...

I picked this one up for $200 this week, it works great in all honesty. I used to work for Best Buy a few years ago and I never had any negative feedback on the Insignia brand anymore than I would about any others in similar products. The Netflix firmware that was released today works great. For $200 with the new Transformers BR for $5 (not that I like the movie, my wife does) it's a steal. I now have the Netflix instant on my 360 downstairs and now this new BR player in the bedroom for Netflix there as well.
I highly recommend it, it looks, feels and performs like a solid machine with my experience so far.
