BBC confirms Top Gear is filming this season in HD
We've been wondering for some time when the regular edition of Top Gear (the Polar Special was a glorious, yet singular, event) would make its debut in high definition, and today the BBC Internet Blog confirmed this is the year. Set to debut November 15th, we'll finally be able to see the Stig -- whoever he is -- put some of the world's most exclusive cars through their paces in great quality. Whether that news has you checking the channel lineup for BBC America HD or bookmarking a torrent site we can all agree this is a fine day indeed.

Some say that he's too fast from HD!
tony @ Sep 22nd 2009 4:01PM
...and that if he was shown in HD, all you would see is a single pixel. All we know is he's called The Stig!

Some say, that he's too complex to be shown in HD, and that if you were to try to film him in HD, the cameras would explode... :)

Wow, I can't wait...I really hope that this makes it to the US cable networks (other than BBC America) and\or iTunes in HD and fast!

Top Gear may be one of the absolutely BEST produced TV shows ever...cannot understand why not in HD so far!!
Great news
raptor @ Sep 22nd 2009 4:16PM
Becuase of a lack of HD in the UK? Just a guess.

WOOOOOOO!!! Finally! Now to make space on my hard drive for some really big torrent files.
Yankees368 @ Sep 22nd 2009 2:50PM
Wait, it was not already in HD? The torrents I downloaded of it sure looked to be HD.
Chris @ Sep 22nd 2009 3:49PM
Nope. Only one episode, the North Pole Special, was filmed in HD. The rest are SD rips.
swilson23 @ Sep 22nd 2009 2:53PM
The Stig is Michael Shumacher I thought...
Mikkel @ Sep 22nd 2009 5:23PM
Some say that in order to protect his identity, The Stig is impossible to film in HD!
All I know is that I can't wait until November..
Eli @ Sep 22nd 2009 3:17PM
YES, finally.
Richard Glitter @ Sep 22nd 2009 3:24PM
The Stig was revealed on a British TV show, he removed the helmet, did an interview, etc.
Too lazy to Google, check YouTube.
awsomo2000 @ Sep 22nd 2009 3:48PM
yeah sure and you believe the interweb too ;-)

@awsomo2000
Here, you can decide for yourself if you believe it or not!

Either way, they are brilliant in creating and maintaining the aura around this character
Taylor Alexander @ Sep 22nd 2009 6:30PM
That was a joke. He was there to drive the Ferrari they were testing, since Ferrari only lets the owners drive that car, so they did a little joke where he was the stig. They partially do it because too many people were getting nosy about who the Stig really was, and they wanted to add some confusion.

HELLZ YEAH! Nov 15th cannot get here any faster. Now we can finally see if Richards teeth are whitened or not!
digiboi @ Sep 22nd 2009 5:17PM
By the time BBC America actually brings episodes over, we'll be looking for 3D. C'mon BBCA, show the current season instead of 4 years ago.
kuoirad @ Sep 22nd 2009 5:20PM
Urgh. 1Password got me there.
What I meant to say was: "What the hell? They're 'bringing back' The Nine, but only on DirectTV? Dammit, ABC!"
kuoirad @ Sep 22nd 2009 5:22PM
Beat me to it.
kuoirad @ Sep 22nd 2009 5:23PM
Stupid 1Password.
KeegdnaB @ Sep 22nd 2009 7:25PM
Hey U-Verse, still waiting

I hope discovery hd theater gets the HD version of Top Gear. That would be cool.

This show is unquestionably the very best show on British television and it is about time that it was showcased in HD.
The awesome cars, superb slo-mo camera work, lavish backdrops, screeching audio and always appropriate music (often by Hybrid, my favourite band!) was wasted in SD and finally they are doing it right...I could never understand why not as they have the time and infrastructure to do it (pre-recorded show, space, large studio etc.)
I always had a sneaky suspicion that this was due to the BBC not wanting to lose BBC2 viewers to BBCHD if they simulcast the show on Sunday nights. I wouldn't be surprised to see the regular SD broadcast shown on BBC2 at 8pm (GMT) and the HD broadcast on BBCHD at 9pm. Most of us 'gearheads' would watch both and they would retain their market share...
Either way, roll on the 'cocking about' in HD in November!
Patrick Joseph @ Sep 23rd 2009 3:16PM
I'll be able to watch it in HD when Dish Network wakes the F up and makes BBCA an HD channel.
