Samsung signs up to use Rovi EPG technology
What this means for consumers is yet to be announced, but with any luck that cool new guide called Liquid, that we saw last month from Rovi, could be coming to Samsung HDTVs. Where all of this fits in with tru2way still remains to be seen as well, but with more and more TVs coming equipped with network connectivity and thus access to accurate guide data and VOD services like Amazon and Netflix, makes us wonder if tru2way will even matter. We suppose this CES will be the real indicator, when we see if CableCARD makes a comeback and if tru2way is a part of it.

You know what my favorite thing about that guide is besides the looks? The fact that they realized you can fit more than 90 minutes of guide data on a widescreen.
Come on TiVo, get on it!

Far as I'm concerned, if Samsung persists in making highly reflective, glossy screens on their LCDs I ain't buying any of 'em no matter what the frakking guide looks like. A nice guide is pointless when I can't read it because of the glare.

Hopefully Samsung will produce a fee-free DVR with this guide.

I suspect Rovi is leveraging and updating its TV Guide on Screen (TVGoS) EPG. Hopefully, the Liquid EPG will use the same metadata that drives TVGoS, so TVGoS could live on a little longer -- it was a pretty good EPG for the price.
