It's not a big leap to assume that folks who can grab and actually use Toshiba's RD-X9 2TB DVR would want to occasionally archive some of their shows to an optical disc. Yes, plugging in an external USB drive for backups is probably a better approach, but those optical discs are just so bite-sized and bookshelf-friendly. Toshiba apparently agrees, because burning to disc is supported as well; but maybe engineering is still bitter about the whole
Blu-ray/HD-DVD thing and isn't aware of the new
company line, because the onboard drive is DVD, not Blu-ray. Hopefully the next iteration will get everyone on one page, and we can move on to a
feature-
competitive Blu-ray model.

Blutard of the month award goes to... Steven Kim! For criticizing Toshiba for not incliuding Blu-ray support in a device announced barely days after (and designed many months prior to) applying for membership of the BDA.

Steven Kim, I have to thank you for owning up to your mistake (I know you didn't call it that, but I'm sure you can see now why it wasn't such a good idea). Most bloggers disappear when the commenters start thrashing them. You're human and made a mistake. Big deal. The character of a person is shown after the mistake is made and how they handle it. Good job.
Oh, and yeah - this article sucks. I was going to comment yesterday at work, but had to leave and didn't get another chance to get back on the computer last night. I'm glad others pointed out what I had to say - there's no way they could have developed this last year or even 6 months ago and guessed they'd be doing Blu-ray someday in the future.

This is by far the dumbest article I have read on this site in some time. Toshiba just announced it's intentions to release products with Blu-ray support. Steven Kim, you have just given mentally challenged people who are currently unemployed, a reason to believe.
