Onkyo HT-S7200 and HT-S6200 HTIBs -- new features, same value
There's so many features (and components -- they even include an iPod dock) packed into Onkyo's HTIB systems that it takes a little digging to find the spec bumps in the new HT-S7200 and S6200 models. The top-line HT-S7200 received one extra HDMI input (for a total of five), and both new models also added Audyssey Dynamic Volume and Dolby ProLogic IIz to their processing palette. All in all, pretty consistent with the changes sweeping over the TX-SRx07 receiver lineup, and the $899 and $699 prices for the HT-S7200 and HT-S6200, respectively, are also in line with Onkyo's high value equation for its HTIBs. Finally, there's a $499 SKS-HT870 speaker-only package with the "tallboy" anchored speakers from the HT-S7200 system available for those who want to upgrade their HTIB without starting all over.

These are the only systems I recommend to people wanting to spend less than $400-600 on the entire thing. It's just so much better than the Panasonic/Sony/Pioneer HTiB's out there because of the front speakers and subwoofer. However over that price you can probably do better by piecing something together on your own.

i was looking at getting the s9100. do you think a 9200 will be coming out soon?
i was also thinking about getting a 706, but i can never find the perfect speakers and sub for 1000 (total price)

I've been coveting the S9100 THX system as well, so I hope a 9200 comes out soon.
I'm planning to make my new HT purchases in Spring 2010, so maybe I'll get lucky... it will be a toss up between a 9100/9200 and a pieced-together system for the same price. ($750 to $900 retail)
Wish me luck! :)

Onkyo is a fanatastic company. Cheap, feature packed and for the most part they do make great quality electronics.
They single-handedly made all other manufacturers include more features for lower price because they beat them to the punch and were mostly great quality too.
I love them. Even their Integra brand is really good.

I've been looking into getting a surround sound system for my big tv, but everytime I start to piece something together, it ends up costing 3k or so. I just can't spend that kind of cahs right now. Features and all that aside, can anyone tell me how well something like this sounds? Or maybe piece something together and just start with the fronts and go from there?

The onkyo systems always sound really nice, I own the HT-S5200 its not HD sound, the 6200 and 7200 are, but i gotta say its a greta system, has a power sub and everything, speakers are huge to :D Exclenet sound, allot better than about all other home tehater systems out there, onkyo is the only one that does a good job at it, yamaha and sony would be next in line.

The Onkyo HT-S9100THX may be the best all-in-one (HTIB) solution available right now. Go and read the reviews on Amazon or the web. It's really a fantastic system for the $$.
cheapest right now:

Had an Onkyo HTIB for 3 years, only got rid of it because I moved into a smaller apt. Just moved into my own home 2 months ago and will be buying a new Onkyo system before the end of the year. Great quality, great sound, the only HTIB I will ever consider.
