Belkin's Gigabit Powerline Adapter ups the ante for electrical outlet networking
We don't know exactly how, but Belkin's claiming its new Gigabit Powerline HD Starter Kit adapters can outpace the current 200Mbps standard speed of most other powerline devices (not all of them, mind you) by five fold. Of course, the caveat here is that the touted 1000Mbps is under ideal settings, and there's no telling what other network traffic, interference, or problematic wiring could lower that figure -- still, assuming all conditions are sound, we're talking some hefty numbers for an HD streaming network run via your home's electrical system. It's available now in North America at a penny under $150 for a pair of adapters, with a European release in early August.

wow

I'm not going to run out and buy any of these before I see some independent testing that verifies the speed claims. Prior powerline networking products have been VERY sketchy at best.

Agreed. Too much marketing BS for Ethernet-Over-Powerline.

Typical belkin with their outrageous claims and overpriced products. I bet this won't even reach 5 Mbps

Belkin overpriced? Belkin is the Spark-o-Matic of 2009.
reggie @ Jun 23rd 2009 1:34AM
L3 I have no idea what a Spark-o-matic is but for someone who worked at the big B. all I know is that most of their products are of cheap quality and I say overpriced because this probably costs $5 to make.

lol that poor electrical outlet is scared to death

Well, I looked at a number of reviews of their slower 200mb version, and most were very flattering. From what I can tell, it just depends on your setup. How new of a home/wiring, etc.
So, I've bought one and I'm going to give it a try. They have a 30day return policy, which should give me plenty of time to see how it works.
I've seen too many skeptical people who have never tried it, and too many who have that had great experiences to discount this product.

Been using the linksys ones for about 6 months, 3 total, they work perfect. 10 yr old house.

To the person above- didn't Belkin get busted for making up fake reviews all over the internet not to long ago? I would take theirs with a grain of salt.
