LCD sales expectations raised for the rest of '09
Same old same old, despite the screams of plasma fans, LCD sales are expected to reach higher than ever this year, as DisplaySearch has raised its estimate to 127 million units worldwide in 2009. Total TV sales are expected to drop, as well as those of plasmas, but even in the liquid crystal world all isn't pretty. As a result of the ongoing price war, even with higher sales manufacturers are raking in less cash, with revenue projected to be down as much as 6 percent. We doubt that will result in the long predicted LCD price spike, but we do have to wonder how much lower we'llssee sales go later this year around usual bargain hunting times like Black Friday, there may not be much room left.

If I can finish convincing the wife I'm getting a projector. Otherwise I'm getting a plasma. No more LCD here.

I've proudly owned a Samsung LN52A750 and it's awesome for an LCD with all models of its time considered and beaten! And even though I would totally sell it and pony up the difference for a LN52B750, from scratch savings my next HDTV, if even available, would and will more than likely be one of the latest or rather last 60" Kuro Elites for my living room home theater watching pleasure. Well at least until a 52-60" OLED arrives at a reasonable price.

i honestly think these $600 42" plasmas will be the best deals this year, but am happy to see the leaps the current gen entry level LCDs (i.e. panny c12, sony l5000) have made in just 1 year. i think we'll see some incredible deals this year on the sammy b650, which i think is the best lcd on the market (wait, sans the xbr8, a950, lg90, and xs1!). also, i don't understand how the sony zx1 and the luxias are taking big steps backwards in PQ, yet are way more expensive than the ccfls.

I just went from a 37" LG30 to a 55" Sony XBR8 and I couldn't of asked for better

What a tragedy...uninformed consumers are totally missing out on the huge advantages and superior quality of Plasma.

Now that it appears one of the biggest differences between LCD and Plasma is no more (both now sport high gloss, highly reflective screens) my next set will be a plasma.

plasma still has better PQ at any price point really, it's too bad consumers are so stuck on the fact that LCD is "newer," thus, "better"

I use LCD for my small bedroom set(23"). The other 2 are Rear projection. I haven't seen anything bad about LCD yet, but haven't owned a plasma so I can't say either is better.

I am a PDP lover but a wannabe or closet LCD lover (especially with LED & laser LCD's.) I saw a Samsung LED LCD at Best Buy with Wall E playing on it and was impressed, more so than I thought I would ever be being a plasma owner and supporter. I love the smoothness of images on PDP but the vibrancy of LCD. LCD images are way to sharp for my taste and with PDP I find the colors don't pop the way LCD does. I also still have burn in issues with PDP, even though its temporary its unbelievable and unacceptable that this problem still exits when we spend thousands of our hard earned dollars on TV's. I just want someone to combine the positive attributes of LCD and PDP. OLED looks more like an LCD successor in the fact its super sharp images and bright colors (which in my opinion are not positive attributes) make it look unreal like an LCD. OLED’s biggest achievements are the thinness and its lesser consumption of power compared to LCD and PDP. But OLED still has image brightness sustainability issues and burn out far faster than LCD and PDP. PDP picture quality is incredible and the colors are bumped up a bit, the set itself made thin enough, and burn in is a thing of the past no matter how much you abuse your TV then PDP could very well still be competing with LCD and OLED when it is released, and doing quite well.
