What year is this...2005? You can just run your HDMI in pass-thru mode from the receiver to TV, and then a TOSLINK cable from TV to soundbar. That way all your cabling is nicely tucked away behind your components and just a cable from receiver to TV, and from TV to soundbar.

Richard Glitter

Comments on Samsung HT-WS1 soundbar review

Eh this is Samsung. All their electronics devices are average at best - and their audio equipment is nothing short of entry level junk. (although not this soundbar).

Also, when you TOSLINK from tv to soundbar, you can only get dolby digital/dts at best and not any of the lossless audio formats. You are depriving yourself of the best audio available on a blueray/hd-dvd and there is a noticable difference between lossless and lossy audio even if you are using a soundbar in a 3.1 (LCR) format - that is, no simulated surround, which doesn't work well in large rooms anyway without a back wall.

Roper Again

Comments on Samsung HT-WS1 soundbar review

Excellent information - thank you. The Samsung LEDTV and the sound bar are on a cabinet and Geek Squad just hooked it up. HOWEVER, the sound bar is in the way of the ON/OFF area of the tv and wouldn't turn on when using a remote while seated-and barely turned on when up close. Seems like Samsung didn't do their measuring properly!!! Both LEDTV and the sound bar are on the stands they came with. Idea was good, but delivery not so good.

Pat Schubert
