I suspect laser projectors (long life span, bright light and no need for a lens) will be the best answer unfortunatley they only seem to be making their way into very small projectors or very large ones.

uk price £2000 (probably less with shopping around) with vat of 17 %

Your quite right about the competition there is and for the same money I could but a quality 1080p
projector.

The thing is even with the cost of a flight to the uk and paying the import duty I would still save around $3000.

The difference in price is going to panasonic or their dealers.
Hence the **** panasonic.

by the way the panasonic have contracts with their dealers that prohibit them from exporting.
so much for fair competition.
