Sony's 400-disc BDP-CX7000ES Blu-ray Mega Changer reportedly coming soon
There's no doubt that Sony has a 400-disc Blu-ray Mega Changer on the cooker -- heck, we saw the thing last year at CEDIA -- but up until now, there's been no indication of its nearness to market. According to a vague Swiss product page and a report from Sony Insider, however, the launch date is indeed drawing near. If hunches prove legitimate, the BDP-CX7000ES will allow 400 of your favorite BD flicks to sit within a single console, and we've every reason to believe that this one will support BD-Live and actually load films with some amount of haste. You know, very much unlike the 200-disc HES-V1000 that's already out there. As of now, it's looking like the unit will run right around $2,300, placing it squarely in rarefied air and ostensibly out of reach for the vast majority of home theater junkies.

Are there even 400 blu-ray movies available?
Kidding...

Damn it, UnnDunn beat me to the punch(line)...
Anyway, doesn't this show Sony's "faith" (or lack of it) in Managed Copy ever becoming a reality on Blu-ray? It'd be a hell of a lot cheaper to just make a normal Blu-ray player with 10T of disc space, at today's prices of around $100/T - retail.

Actually, it will be released in August and the price will be $1,899.
I saw it at the Sony show in Vegas.

So what happens when the changer mechanism starts eating your discs?

How much was it when Soy 400 DVD Changer was first released??? anyone knows?
Richard M @ May 21st 2009 9:34AM
I'll get this when it's 400.

I still don't get why they don't combine this (and especially with something as visually appealing and feature-rich as the HES-V100 is, despite its other flaws) with a PS3 and make it a one piece home entertainment system. They could charge a several hundred dollar premium while saving money with overlapping components and I'd appreciate the convenience of not having to swap out any blu-ray disc, let alone movies.

I find it surprising that Sony can justify the price for this. The regular DVD version can be had for under $400, and standalone Blu-ray players can be had daily for just under $200. Why it costs so much to put the two together is nothing short of highway robbery.

My thoughts exactly. All they've done here is swap the DVD player for a Blu-ray. That doesn't justify the $2000 premium. Crazy.

Not to brag but I have 389 Blu-ray movies already. When you add in 2-disk sets it would be hundreds more.
I love the idea but I would prefer a 5-Disk Changer.

Just get yourself a Mac Mini and install Plex or XMBC and a mid sized NAS with about 4TB and you are good to go for 1/2 of the price, with a much nicer interface and expandability.
Plus it won't take 5 minutes to switch discs...

That is the exact same thing I was thinking. I did some math and 4000 GB/25 GB per disk is only 160 of course you could always go bigger and I don't really know how much data is actually on a blu-ray disk but that's an estimate. Very respectable plus you could use all that space for other stuff, and who really has 400 Blu-rays. But don't forget you would have to add a Blu-ray drive to you mac mini and I'm not sure about the ripping software but that would be an awesome set up.

Current Sony 400 DVD changer is $400. Current BD player is $300. While I know the one shown is an ES, the non ES seems like it could easily be $600-700 unless there is something MUCH more complex involved.
As we know, these units generally do not rate as being the best quality (picture/sound), so why the massive premium?

I own 4 four hundred disc ES changers from Sony. They are managed by a Escient system. On behalf of myself, (A primary target for Sony's new BD changer), $ 1,000.00 would be the maximum amount I would pay for this changer...and it would have to be universal in application. Otherwise, I'd buy three Oppo's for that kind of money and feel really great about the decision! The only way I would give that price the slightest thought would have to include a 100% buy back of my present changers in exchange for the new ones.

I too own a Sony 400 Disc DVD player and an Escient Fireball. The Escient website states they will have an interface with their popular Vision series for the CDX 7000 ES. I will purchase this product as long as it does not not have alot of bugs and would gladly pay twice the $2,000 presumed price. WIth its abilty to upscale regular DVDs to near HD quality, support of dolby, HDMI 1.3, true cinema, etc, it is a steal at $2,000. The current Sony dvd jukebox has none of these features. 20 1 TB internal hard drives alone would reach this price without the state of art Blue Ray player.
