DISH Network launches remote DVR control
Congratulations DISH Network DVR owners, you no longer have to be jealous of your DirecTV brethren, now that DISH Remote Access lets you schedule recordings from anywhere. All that's necessary is a broadband connected ViP DVR like the ViP® 722k, ViP® 722, ViP® 622 and ViP® 612. Got an attached Slingbox (or, in the future, SlingLoaded ViP 922 HD DVR?) Then you can watch recorded shows from anywhere too via the SlingGuide we peeped at CES. That's really all there is, we could whine about this upgrade taking so long but really, it seems better to just go ahead and try out the new features immediately. Now, about that Sling app for iPhones...

Yay for Satellite, and Fios. What's left. Oh yeah everyone on Cable.
Seriously why don't we see this on Cable yet? Everyone else's software runs circles around cable providers.

I'm excited by this news.

Wow, you need to have the DVR's ethernet connected. On DirecTV you just need to make sure it can hit a satellite, no internet required.

The Dish remote web page provides immediate feedback on conflicts with existing schedules, and also lets you control the DVR in real time. And, as the article said, if you have a Slingbox you can also watch any of your shows. You can't do that a one-way satellite connection.
But hey, DirecTV has great commercials... :)

JR - The one-way provider you speak of doesn't have Sling-enabled boxes either.
But my point being, to be able to use the service, you shouldn't be required to have it connected to the network.
Colby @ May 8th 2009 5:38PM
And I'm only talking about remote-scheduling, no additional services.

I have been using the beta for a couple of months or so and it works great. Typically, I do it from my iPhone and they did a great job on the user experience. I could always offer a few recommendations, but I am also nit picky and try to refrain.
Cheers,
Lo

Its about time! Now I just have to work on my home network. Been procrastinating on doing this but I think its now worth my effort.

I've been using this feature for a few months and it is great!
I especially like the fact that you can edit the contents of the DVR from the web or iphone or ipod touch. And you can control the DVR from the touch -- which is really handy for when the wife misplaces the remote (or I want to mess with her from the other room).

Wish they would enable this feature if you don't have a Slingbox. I just want to be able to schedule the recording, not actually watch the recording. Slingbox should only be required if you want to watch it.

Works fine without a Sling device. I'm using it and have no Sling.

This has been active for about a month. Go to www.dishonline.com and click on the sling banner. Its pretty good for what it is, guess.

I just signed up for it. works pretty well. Now i just wish i could transfer video between my 2 VIP622's via ethernet.
Has anyone been able to use the "Playlist" and "Transfer" features on the 622 that came out in the 6/15/09 software release? I'm hoping playlist lets me queue a whole crapload of recorded shows to play back to back for when i'm feeling lazy on the couch or plan on sleeping or am sick.
