It took long enough, but we've finally got video (embedded after the break) of the giant 159 x 72-foot 1080p displays facing each sideline of the new home of the Dallas Cowboys, playing back some highlights of a game vs. the Colts. We've seen the specs and the mockups of Mitsubishi's huge DiamondVision screen, but suddenly things look very different when the camera pans down and one realizes exactly how large these displays are. Once we've confirmed the stadium isn't built by the same guys that put together the team's practice bubble, we'll be making plans to head down and catch a game. Eat that, Dolphin Stadium.
I'm wondering the same. I'm no HDTV guru, but 1920x1080 is not the same proportion as 159x72. I would think that means they'll either have vertical black bars or they'll be stretching the image to fit. Unless there's some magic in the math somewhere that makes it work (?)

Well, in a tv show about the stadium they said they wanted to compete with HDTV at home as many people say they would rather watch tv at home than sit in bad seats in an arena. So, they sized the screen to replicate the veiw of a 50 inch from 10-12 feet away.

Now the people at the stadium will enjoy watching the Cowboys choke in December just like the people at home.

As a Cowboys fan, I agree with you.

As a Cowboys fan of the Jimmy Johnson days and the times prior to that, I also agree. :)

:( Unfortunately, this is so true.

Is it my imagination, or were they showing stretch-o-vision on their new bijilion-dollar screen!?!?

Nah. Defensive ends are a bit "wide" in real life!

Most likely the extra space will be taken up with ads, in game stats, etc.
I work down the street from the new stadium. You can't appreciate the sheer massiveness of the damn thing until you see it in person.

Next Super Bowl should be interesting, they should able to show super bowl ad in that big screen.

How big is it compared to the one in the new Yankee Stadium?
chihawk @ May 18th 2009 8:20AM
Is it just me, or is that thing hanging a little low....no punting allowed in the new cowboy stadium.
Paul @ May 26th 2009 1:19AM
That's what I've been thinking too. 90 feet from the ground seems like prime punt-blocking height.
