Call me crazy, but I had a Tivo in 2000 and got the Directv Tivo when it first came out and had the DIrectv HD Tivo(HR10-250) and now have just two Directv HR20s and I have to say I much prefer the HR20s to any Tivo I've owned.
Now having said that, I'll take the extra features (multi-room viewing, amazon unbox, podcasts, ect.) from Tivo on my Directv HD DVR. But just for regular viewing, I find the HR20 faster and easier to navigate and also like the constant live picture box in almost all menus.
Me, I hate the constantly-on thing in the corner, in no small part to the fact that I watch a lot of sports time-delayed. So my M.O. when I come home is to hit the "TiVo" key so that I DON'T have Live TV on when I get there. Otherwise the feature is "OK" as long as it can be turned off.
I am so friggin pissed about this! I have been waiting patiently for this new unit to come out. I'm getting really tired of Directv. Bottom line is; Directv DVR sucks and Tivo rules!
nice to have choices though, I really loath that live TV box that you cannot get rid of. More than once it has spoiled the end of a live broadcast show before I have time to activate that show's beginning from the playlist.
When upgrading to HD I got the DTV DVR last year. So disappointed, limited to only 50 season passes, slow navigation, easy to hit the wrong button and get totally lost, hard to find the show to record (seems to default to on demand shows first) records shows on channels I don't even receive. The HD picture is super and have fallen in love w/ HD picture but still record on TiVo upstairs because more than once the DTV DVR has missed a recording or doesn't recognize a series. It also lacks the info feature in Tivo w/ show numbers so that we can play them in order. 2010 just can't come soon enough...
