Seriously. How freaking hard can it be to merge these two devices? I think you are right about it not being a technical issue. Now having said that, I'll take the extra features (multi-room viewing, amazon unbox, podcasts, ect.) from Tivo on my Directv HD DVR. But just for regular viewing, I find the HR20 faster and easier to navigate and also like the constant live picture box in almost all menus.

1. The availability of shows online. Only non-network shows I watch are on FX, and therefore are generally available on Hulu with a 1 week delay. I've got a PC with Media Center, 2 HD tuners, an OTA antenna, and an Xbox. I'll be ok with the network shows in HD.

2. DirecTv's move to "lease only" equipment. So I can't walk into a store and buy a receiver, I have to rent one from them (indefinitely) and either return it to them or pay a ridiculous fee at termination. That's the main advantage remaining for Tivo....the ability to switch back and forth between two paused shows, like sporting events, so you can fast forward through commercials and boring parts.
