Always nice when you call cox and tell them to cut of the internet and they try to down play U-verse saying all they can get is 5 or 10mg on internet and I just replied apparently you have not seen or used it because your info is wrong thank you and her is your card. I was tempted at first, but then I noticed that the pricing would come out to be the same as my current Time Warner. And that is with slower internet and not including fees for extra set top boxes for all of my televisions. The only sign-up deal they have is a $200 rebate. I'd rather have a locked in low price for 6 months or a year. They've already raised the advertised price once in the past five months.

What's the point of competition if it doesn't offer lower prices? I thought that was the point of competition.

Jeff

Comments on AT&T trumpets U-verse gains in Q1

I guess this explains why they offered me such a sweet deal when I called to inquire about Uverse earlier this week. They must be afraid of FIOS and Docsis 3.0 and just want to amass subscribers. Uverse had been available to me since early last year but I didn't bother with it since they wouldn't allow me to get the service without the TV service attached (I only wanted the quasi-fiber internet). They offered me the service with only the internet (10mb/1.5mb) and waived the installation fee plus they offered the same monthly rate that I'm currently paying for their 1.5mb/384k DSL. I couldn't resist so I signed up. Something to hold me over till FIOS moves in. The only other option was Time Warner which would have been 2x more expensive for comparable speeds and the caps/tier news lately doesn't put them in a good light.

There really needs to be a lot more competition in the broadband space. This 1 to 2 choice per market is why the US isn't number 1 when it comes to speeds.

mactx

Comments on AT&T trumpets U-verse gains in Q1

When I first heard about U-Verse I was excited.
18Mbps internet
Total home DVR
4 Tuner DVR
All movie channels
Home phone service
2x as many HD channels as I have now
2 extra boxes
all for about $20 less than I pay now for less stuff.

I was ready to sign up as soon as it was ready in my area.

BUT there is one thing they don't tell you. You can only have 1 HD feed coming to the house at a time. I watch 2 shows at the same time on Monday nights at 9(Heroes and 24) both in HD and the other HDTV in my house may be watching another HD channel. So as great as everything else sounds U-Verse would not be an option for me and i would guess a lot of other people.

Jim

Comments on AT&T trumpets U-verse gains in Q1

Wow, thanks for the 411 on that one!
