As opposed to "American" football, where it really has nothing to do with the feet. Its a variant of rugby... which is a variant of the "real" football (or soccer, in the states...). "American football" should really be called soccer and soccer should really be called football.

It sickens me just about as much as using the English system for measurements. Base 10 makes so much more sense the inches and feet... ugh.

The real surprising thing: American Football is actually a variant of Canadian football, which was a variant of Rugby Football. American's originally played Association football, but when our colleges went to play Canadian colleges, they were playing based off of Rugby Football rules.
