Prototype Sanyo projector throws up 1080p at near point-blank range
Sanyo's had a knack for pumping out short-throw projectors, but its latest prototype unquestionably takes the cake. Debuting without so much as a model name, this here DLP beamer -- which, at 93- x 20- x 25-inches, easily doubles as a bench -- throws up a 100-inch 1080p image with just 24-inches of space between it and the wall. Better still, that can scale up to 150-inches by adding just another foot of breathing room -- and just to remind you, we're talking full 1,920 x 1,080 resolution here. Sanyo also tossed in 7,000 lumens of brightness, though mum's the word when it comes to price or nearness to production.

I'm all for short throwing, but thats one big a** projector! Could u wall mount that beast? How much does it weigh? Too complicated, looks good though

Won't it be nice when the future is all like this. No more rear/ceiling mounting and running wires to your projector, just set up the projector in the cabinet with your gear and be done with it. Oh come soon!

This is a great idea but I just dont like the Sanyo name. Sony, Mitz, Pioneer, just about anything else.

I guess you never used or saw a profeesional series Sanyo projector?

These are the together with Barco some of the finest you can get m8 :)

I would like this more if... it were above 5000 lumens with a good contrast ratio. Price isn't as important lets say under $75,000 and you have me interested. FYI I don't have $75,000, but I do professional video and audio and the people I work for and do installations for do have that much. It could be a neat alternate solution to bulky rear projection systems.
nismo334 @ Apr 14th 2009 7:27PM
oh, and that image it's throwing up can't be real, obviously a photoshop.
PJ @ Apr 14th 2009 8:38PM
the post says that it has 7,000 lumens

I've never been huge on projectors but this technology takes the cake!

If they can carve out a few cubby holes for home theatre gear(with A/V inputs right in the cubby?), then the thing would double as an entertainment stand(not that you'd have anything to stand on it), which would justify it's dongeriffic size.
What I don't get though...isn't a short throw projector really just an optical acheivement? Is the projector this giant because it needs to be, or because it would look foolish to have a phone book sized dealio sitting on the rug?

Actually that image is not entirely accurate. The girl is only about 24 inches tall. just to make everything look bigger
