Is right now the best time to buy a new HDTV?
A perfect storm of the slow economy and seasonal affect of new televisions coming in while old models still sit unsold is making right now the time to buy, according to the L.A. Times. It's the answer to the question many of us are constantly asked "when can I get the best deal?" and there's plenty of answers, Black Friday, Super Bowl, or right now during the slow period, but strictly on a dollar sense, from now through the next several months is generally easy picking for bargain hunters, with clearances driving prices low if you can manage to resist the pull of brand new models with their slick features sitting right next to the ones on sale. Any tips on where to look, or at least self control before we pass our own stimulus package?

I got my 46" Z series for $50 (fifty) dollars as a going away present from Circuit City. I guess working there had its perks.
Besides being jobless, I'm totally LOVING LIFE with this TV mounted in my house.

no doubt this is the perfect time for those who don't have a HDTV yet....since you can find any kind of deal for those 60Hz tv's for a really low price.
I'm just waiting until those 120Hz drop more so I can change my HDTV

I for one can't stand the motion interpolation provided by 100Hz or 120Hz (be you in the US or elsewhere). I would be more than happy to save several hundred dollars for a 50/60Hz only set.

If you don't already have one then yes now is a good time. If you are itching to replace an existing HD set then I would wait if you want LCD but take the plunge if you want a plasma. By this time next year the edge LED sets should be affordable for most.

Looks like the woman in the picture wouldn’t show her receipt!

Be sure to check the deal sites like SlickDeals and TechDealDigger that post links to deep discounts on TVs and other electronics. I use the latter and picked up the highly-rated Panasonic 42 TH-42PZ85U 1080p Plasma for $865 including free shipping before Christmas. At the time, that was $150 cheaper than the prices showing on the Price Comparison engines. http://www.techdealdigger.com
Stay away from BestBuy, though, generally their prices are 10-20% (sometimes more) above the prices I've seen on the deal sites.

I wonder if there is a site like Tom describes for Canada, I know there's Red Flag Deals.com but it would be nice to have one focus on electonics.
Even though no one ships big TV's in Canada :(.

I just bought a new 46" Samsung LCD HDTV from Abt Electronics (http://www.abt.com). Not only is the tv amazing but it was cheaper than most places I looked. My salesperson Kevin Robles was extremely helpful and took the time to answer all the questions I had. The best part was that the shipping was free.

Amazon usually has the best daily prices and shipping is usually free, too. SlickDeals.net is a good place to start.

I went to Best Buy and got a 46 Sony XBR6 120 Hz for $1899 plus 99.99 home theatre setup. That was sweet...at the time it was listed for $2600. It was the Killzone 2 weekend special :-)

Interesting question, since readers of this site already have an HDTV...don't they?

I was at Abt Electronics the other day and I bought a 52" LG LCD HDTV. The television was so inexpensive that I decided to get a PS3 too. There customer service was so great that I have decided that when I am ready to get my home theater system that Abt Electronics is where I will get it.

maybe on the larger sized sets, but on the small ones it is not prime time for sure.
