After Mitsubishi
suddenly and unexpectedly suspended production of its flagship
LaserVue HDTV in early February, many took the liberty of believing that the end was nigh for this extremely high-end set (given the not-exactly-booming economy). We contacted Mitsubishi in order to follow up, and today we've received direct confirmation that the LaserVue is indeed "back in production." In other words, the supply channels are all moving smoothly again, and whatever caused the issue to begin with truly was simply a snag and not a foreshadowing of the set's death. Too bad this thing is still up
near seven grand in many places -- after seeing one in action, it's hard to look at any other technology the same way.

I am happy production has started again. now maybe Mitsubishi can increase production. and Drop prices to a more moderate level. This product line is just too OVERPRICED.
though i really want one, at $7,000. it is just too much, especially given it is PROJECTION!!!

Sir, you have NO CLUE of what you are talking about. You have not seen this in person as my friend has and we commute together to work everyday.
My Friend bought one of these TV's in the Bay area and I can say it is simply "Amazing". You have to see a Blue Ray Movie on it or play Bio Shock with 3D glasses. Nothing comes close to a Laser TV in color and clarity. This is the future of the market (when prices come down so I can buy one).

my main point is it is a grossly overpriced set. i'd pay about $5k for a 73" model also.
i have seen one of these. and yes with Blu-Ray. I just don't think that it is priced for consumers. it is priced for a very few to buy at moment.
anyway I just want one of these, but not at this price, it needs to come down a bit.

I dont mind that its projection. You have to go projection when you are talking 65-73 inches and want to pay less than 20,000.
I would be in for a 73" as soon as I can get one for say $ 3,500.

" after seeing one in action, it's hard to look at any other technology the same way"
How do these sets compare to the 9G Pioneer Elite?
haX0r @ Mar 24th 2009 4:35PM
Blows them out of the water. Side by side, the Laser TV is brighter and renders faster because they are using lasers.
Dug Midi @ Mar 24th 2009 3:59PM
The only detriment to projection are slight overscan issues. Balancing that is:
1. Glorious color
2. Glorious power consumption
3. Glorious brightness - and no loss in screen brightness over time unlike LCD/plasma.
If you spend more than an hour a day in front of the tv, then buy this screen and downgrade your car (unless you spend more than 2 hours a day in it).
I am rarely impressed by new product releases or technology. This impresses me...frikken lasers!

Regardless of which technology we as individuals may prefer I sure hope Mits has a real winner here. Taking this kind of plunge in today's economy should be applauded. Those that desire something in the 60"+ range have little to choose from. Bravo Mits.

I've been drooling over this tech since first heard about it, this will be super sweet. It makes me ask a question though; being laser generated video, would the current connection tech not be advanced enough to fully utilize it? Audio can be fed optically, could an optical video data feed be good for it? Fiber op would do a better job than any kind of wire connection, a wireless option would be even better, especially for that price. Food for thought.

I want one so bad. Hoping for a huge tax return!

If Mitsubishi wants to sell a lot of these, they would price them around $5K.
Also, I'd prefer if they were under 7" deep.

I bought one of these late last year. If price or form-factor are critical for you, so be it. But if you have the space and the spare change, there is nothing like it. Even on 'standard' setting, the clarity and color are incredible. And if your retina can take it, 'brilliant' will blow your mind.
