I overheard this and was dumbstruck. How could people be this misinformed? I calmly butted in and told them they needed a blu-ray player to play these discs. The husband gave me a snarky look and I still don't think he believed me.

I wonder how many more new releases will bundle the DVD in with the BR disc, which would definitely help with those consumers that think DVD players are forward compatible.

Can anyone refresh my memory as to whether or not the blu ray media could handle a DVD burn on the backside of the disc?

I see your point, but knowing that your DVD player plays CD's doesn't excuse them from not knowing that Blu-ray discs won't play in a DVD player. Although I did have to chuckle and squirm a bit reading some of these comments. I'd hate to come in looking to fill my new HD fix only to find out that some dipwad had checked out "my" movie, because it had a new shiny box, so that he could take it home to play in his 5 year old Coby DVD machine hooked to a 25 year old 19" Hitachi. Then both he, his family, and I will be pissed. As an employee there, I can point out that our public services people are required to ask anyone checking out a Blu-Ray disc if they have a Blu-Ray player or PS3. The first day we launched the collection, the reactions were interesting. I'd say the majority of couples asked each other "Do we have a Blu-Ray player?" while the techy guys just went "Oooo".
