Then, the wife said to the husband, "don't we need a special player to play these discs." The husband said confidently, "no, it should play on our DVD player."

I overheard this and was dumbstruck. How could people be this misinformed? I calmly butted in and told them they needed a blu-ray player to play these discs. No holds, two at a time for up to a week. Cool. Most of the "big" movies that I'd like to see in Blu-ray, like the "Pirates" movies and CG animation that always looks so amazing in the store demos are there. I just got a Panasonic Plasma a month or so ago and am shopping for a Blu-ray player (maybe the new Vizio?) and am excited about the free access to discs at my library.

Although I did have to chuckle and squirm a bit reading some of these comments. I'd hate to come in looking to fill my new HD fix only to find out that some dipwad had checked out "my" movie, because it had a new shiny box, so that he could take it home to play in his 5 year old Coby DVD machine hooked to a 25 year old 19" Hitachi. Then both he, his family, and I will be pissed. Darn, I hate it when that happens...

Charles

Comments on Blu-ray Discs sliding into public libraries -- has yours made the move?

What's a public library?

HotBBQ

Comments on Blu-ray Discs sliding into public libraries -- has yours made the move?

Finally something free for us people, I hope my library stocks Blu-Ray movies, this way I don't have to pay those outrages prices big companies are expecting us to pay.

Sonic Pebbles

Comments on Blu-ray Discs sliding into public libraries -- has yours made the move?

I wonder if this means I can't donate my HD-DVD collection to the library anymore... at least I can donate blu-rays I don't want any longer...

h0mi

Comments on Blu-ray Discs sliding into public libraries -- has yours made the move?

Wow, my library is on Engadget!!

As an employee there, I can point out that our public services people are required to ask anyone checking out a Blu-Ray disc if they have a Blu-Ray player or PS3.
